Scarface Remake Adds Star Wars Actor, Loses Director - Report

Training Day's Antoine Fuqua drops out, while Diego Luna comes aboard to play a lead role, apparently.

New details have come to light about the Scarface remake, including the director leaving the project and a new actor coming aboard.

Variety reports that director Antoine Fuqua (Magnificent Seven, Training Day) has dropped out of the movie, possibly due to a push from Sony for him to make a sequel to The Equalizer with Denzel Washington sooner rather than later. Though Fuqua may be out, film company Universal reportedly remains interested in getting production started this spring. As such, the company is supposedly already meeting with potential directors to replace Fuqua.

Additionally, sources told the site that Star Wars: Rogue One actor Diego Luna will play a lead role in the untitled Scarface remake. The new movie will take place in modern-day Los Angeles, focusing on a Mexican immigrant. The 1932 original and the 1983 version starring Al Pacino also told immigrant stories, though those movies took place in Chicago and Miami, respectively.

Luna played Captain Cassian Andor in Rogue One, which has made more than $1 billion at the box office.

Prototype developer Radical Entertainment released Scarface: The World Is Yours in 2006, which served as a follow-up to the 1983 movie. No plans for any new games have been announced, however.

No, to all current and future filmmakers, if you can't say how technology will improve a film it shouldn't be remade (even then you probably should stop yourself)

Leave Scarface alone.

No one wants a remake of Scarface ffs.

Come up with something new and original for once.

Film business is gone to complete junk.

There is nothing coming that I want to see.

I wish people would just stop going to see the junk that is being put out in the cinemas.

Trying to remake this movie is like trying to remake Lord Of The Rings its just a bad idea. Plus Al Pacino is a brilliant actor.

Yowsa. I had no idea they were remaking this. I love him as an actor, but I can't get behind the idea of this movie.
