Next game from Minecraft studio Mojang entering open beta June 3; players can buy game for 13/€15/$20.

Collectible card game Scrolls, the first post-Minecraft game from Mojang, will launch through a paid beta next week. Gamers can grab the game for the PC and Mac on June 3 for 13/€15/$20.

No Caption Provided

The paid beta for Scrolls was originally intended to launch by the end of April. No reason why given for the delay.

Scrolls will launch in the wake of Minecraft's runaway success. The game has sold over 20 million units across PC/Mac, Xbox Live Arcade, and mobile and has catapulted creator Markus "Notch" Persson to international recognition.

Persson is currently working on the space-focused 0x10c, though its current status is unknown.

The game looks good, the real question is , will they have DLC every second month thus cowing people for money? because thats what happens with these kinds of games and it just ruins them.

@grokh I dont think it would be dlc more likely it would be like most of the card games out their you pay for a chance to get a rare card which is more logical to do with this kind of game if you want to profit from it

@jthotty All trading card games are like that, but this one looks very good. And while the genre will alienate the gaming community at large, it will also provide a wonderful experience for those that do enjoy this sort of thing. And who knows, maybe it will catch on with people outside of its comfort zone audience. That would be cool

@Squirrelatwar There is secondary currency, but they have said many times that everything in the shop can be earned just by playing the game without spending.

Yeah, uh, I don't know how I feel about this. I'd rather wait for Hearthstone, or Hex. Speaking of Hex... they've pretty much quadrupled their kickstarter goal with 10 days left. Congrats to the awesome dudes at Cryptozoic.

@Lhomity I was excited for this game long before Hearthstone was even announced. I think I will stick with Mojang too, I like their business practices more.

Wait a minute..."Scrolls"? Is that in any way like "The Elder Scrolls"? It's not a Bethesda game, but still...I'm confused!

I believe this has already been settled out of court; Mojang are allowed to call the franchise 'Scrolls' as long as no game is the same genre as TES and they don't directly compete with TES (if memory serves).

Somehow I was expecting something more creative. Scrolls looks like it could have been made by anyone.

@granola_goodnes I like that they too such a radically different approach than Minecraft. I mean, I love minecraft, but I was definitely not looking for another sandbox lego game to play. But I have been pretty starved for a good online card game that doesn't nickel and dime me to death for a good collection. And Mojang has great business practices, and treats their customers well.

@granola_goodnes As a game programmer who likes to work on small projects at home, there's sometimes some kinds of games that we always wanted to make, even if they are not creative. He's not pushed by some big publisher to make something to make money, he just does want he likes to make, which is great for him.

@granola_goodnes Yeah, it looked bland ofc...but they'll add new stuff I'm assuming. It still looks pretty good. It seems like one of those games you play for 5 hours and then take a break and come back to it a day later.
