See New Power Rangers Movie's Much-Different Rita Repulsa
This is not the costume design you remember.
The first image of Hunger Games actress Elizabeth Banks as Power Rangers villain Rita Repulsa has been revealed. Shared by People and on Twitter, the costume and makeup are definitely eye-catching. Fans may also notice that this new version looks quite different than what we saw on the '90s TV show.
Banks told People of the costume design, "It's definitely a modern and edgy re-imagining of the original Rita Repulsa."
Indeed, it is quite a different look for the villain. Repulsa is the first villain character that Banks has ever played, but she may feel right at home in costume, as it looks like something her Hunger Games character Effie Trinket might wear.
Banks is excited to play the part, telling the magazine that she's looking forward to "world domination and being unpredictable as a character."
Power Rangers' teen heroes are played by Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger), Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger), Becky G (Yellow Ranger), RJ Cyler (Blue Ranger) and Ludi Lin (Black Ranger). Additionally, The Office alum David Denman will play Red Ranger's father.
Project Almanac director Dean Israelite is on board to helm the Power Rangers movie, while X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz wrote the original draft of the script. Screenwriting team Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, best known for The Last Witch Hunter and Gods of Egypt, have written the most current draft.
The Power Rangers movie is set to release in March 2017. What do you make of the Rita Repulsa costume design? Let us know in the comments below!
