See Rocket League's "Supersonic Fury" DLC in Action

Following Wednesday's announcement that Psyonix's soccer-with-cars PlayStation 4 and PC game Rocket League had passed 5 million downloads, the developer on Thursday released a gameplay video and shared more details about its upcoming Supersonic Fury DLC.

The Supersonic Fury DLC adds two new cars in the form of the American muscle car Dominus and the Japanese street racer Takumi. Both can be customized with six different decals, and Psyonix VP of marketing Jeremy Dunham points out that they are available exclusively through the DLC.

In addition to the new cars, the Supersonic Fury DLC adds two new rocket boosts called Nitrous and Burnout, as well as two new wheel sets called Cristiano and Spinner. Also included in the package are five new paint types (Brushed Metal, Carbon Fiber, Metallic Pearl, Pearlescent, and Wood), and new Trophies.

The Supersonic Fury DLC is scheduled to launch in early August for $4. Rocket League itself is currently available as a free game for PlayStation Plus members through August 3, so if you haven't downloaded it already, now would be a smart time to do so.

On top of the paid Rocket League DLC, Psyonix will release a free game update that introduces a new map, Utopia Coliseum, and 70+ country flags. Also included is a Spectator Mode, along with updated goal explosions and demolitions and the addition of the song "Firework" by Hollywood Principle.

"It is our sincere hope that this mix of paid DLC and free add-on content is what Rocket League fans have been waiting for, and it's just the beginning of what is plenty more to come," Dunham said. "Thanks once again for your continued support and we'll see you again very, very soon."

What's more, a new patch, 1.03, is also currently in the works.

GameSpot's Rocket League review scored the game a 9/10. Reviewer Miguel Concepcion wrote, "With Rocket League, the promising concept of combining two wonderful things--cars and soccer--is equally magnificent in execution. You can't say the same thing about, say, combining cake and fruit to make fruitcake, as the comedian Jim Gaffigan observed."
