Tom Hanks has played a lot of famous Americans over the years, including astronaut Jim Lovell in Apollo 13, Walt Disney in Saving Mr. Banks, Captain Richard Phillips in Captain Phillips, Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger in Sully, and James B. Donovan in Bridge of Spies. His next role is that of Fred Rogers, the TV personality from the long-running TV show Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.

Sony has now released the first trailer for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, providing a first in-depth look at Hanks as Rogers. The movie is based on the true story of Rogers' relationship with journalist Tom Junod (Matthew Rhys). Junod was tasked with writing a profile of Rogers, but it became so much more than that; A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood tells this story.

You can read Junod's actual profile of Rogers in this 1998 piece for Esquire.

Marielle Heller (Diary of a Teenage Girl) is directing the film off a script from Transparent writers Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster. It hits theaters in November 2019.

The new Mister Rogers movie with Hanks follows the Mister Rogers documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor from Oscar winning director Morgan Neville. It was released earlier this year to much acclaim.
