Sega games headed to EA's Origin store

Electronic Arts' virtual storefront adds new partners Sega, Rebellion, Team 17 Software, Kalypso, and others, bringing total count to 35.

The list of publishing partners for Electronic Arts' Origin digital storefront is growing. EA announced today that it welcomed a new wave of partners, led by Sega.

Sega has signed up to sell its games on Origin.
Sega has signed up to sell its games on Origin.

Sega's upcoming Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai is available to preorder through Origin today, but no future titles have been announced for the download service.

In addition, Rebellion, Team 17 Software, Kalypso Media Digital, and unspecified others have signed up to sell their titles through Origin. EA did not name these parties, and as of press time, the publisher had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

Today's round of additions brings the total number of Origin partners to 35. Downloadable games from the new partners will be available in the coming months, EA said.

In January, Origin added 11 new partners, including Trion Worlds, CD Projekt Red, Inxile Entertainment, and Paradox Interactive. This is on top of previously added marquee publishers Capcom, THQ, and Warner Bros.

Launched during summer 2011, Origin currently boasts 11 million worldwide registered users, a marked increase from the 6 million users EA reported in January.

My problem with STEAM and ORIGIN ... your internet goes down ... you can't play your games ... that's right you can't even play your stand alone games. Want to take your games with you on your lap-top on the plane. Sooo sorry. Wanna take your laptop with you on vacation and get some Shogun 2 in??? Nope that's not happening either. My cable went down for 8 days .... no television, no gaming, for 8 flipping days!!!

nyran125 Posted Apr 10, 2012 7:52 pm GMT not touching Origin. Its either on STEAM or i wont buy it. EA Origin is way overpriced for a digital distributer. Remember downloading costs money too. The Xmas deals on Origin are a joke. Mass Effect 2 is $89US on Orign and $19 on STEAM...why the hell would i buy it from Origin? This is just a big fat lie, I just looked on the origin store, ME2 is 19 and that is all I have to say, other than liar liar pants on fire.

Shame Sega hasn't joined GOG yet, it would be nice to have reworked versions of classic Sega PC titles like Panzer Dragoon, Virtua Fighter 2 and Sega Rally on there. It's probably the easiest way for most of us to play stuff like Bug! outside of owning a Saturn after all.

What's this about? Most of the games for PC use Steam as a service even if we buy it from the store. Origin is just another service like Steam. It would be great if there were more services like steam and origin, that would create more competition between the services, and games would be cheaper! I'm sure that we will find Sega games both on steam and origin, the only question is how do we choose on which service will our game run.

@PeterDuck your posting would prove otherwise. you seem content that everyone who like meat should die early, you are one sad person. your hate for EA proves you are not a gamer. you are someone who has a lot of issues on a lot of things. like i said, i am healthy and fine. you are useless and stupid. i rest my case. and you can take that to the bank, oh wait i bet you are too poor to even know what a bank looks like.do they speak English in what? What ain't no Country i ever heard of.

@jediknight52501 ""please get an early heart attack." proves that you are a troll. i rest my case." It proves that I wish for you to get an early heart attack from eating too many animals. Connect the dots. I could care less about your private life btw, you are irrelevant to me.

I see this as the reason why Xbox and I am sure to some extent Sony are going DD next gen. Either they do or Publishers will. To stop Pirates, Used games or game rentals, and take in more of the money for themselves.

@PeterDuck i don't have to do anything. and your love for PETA proves you hate meat. as long as EA is still making and publishing games, they will never die, it is a sad fact that is true. you just don't realize how right i am about the fact. i hate EA as a Company but they do publish some great games, like Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age. i am a nasty troll, deal with it, you mad bro?

And....amazing, you are still on that? you are a troll after, aren't you? Who said I hated meat? quote me. Being a vegetarian and hating meat are two different things.

EA is gonna see some tough times ahead, with the news lately. They're lucky that Star Wars license paid off. But with ME3's flopped ending and various other big devs making changes to appeal to the consumers, they aren't gonna be able to carry on with their usual antics.

Adding more developers to this won't help EA one bit. They're on a very brittle platform and they have a chance to fix that, but it's slim. Steam made a ton of mistakes in the beginning, the only difference is that they came around to taking responsibility and fixing them. Now the foundation is strong and they have the PC base to prove it. Remember EA, you will reap what you sow. Steam is godlike.

@SirNormanislost I completely agree. I haven't actually paid for anything on there. All of my EA games I've gotten from other retailers because it was cheaper and less convoluted. And as far as I know, they're the only ones charging $60 for a PC download at the moment.

Origin is like Steam (except worse and buggy) ...If they release games on Origin that doesn't mean EA is publishing the game....Probably they will use Steam too...Saw games that were on Steam and Origin....To much fuss about nothing, if you don't like Origin buy it from Steam......Though there is an issue, the ones that prefer to buy games on retail , and having the game on a DVD....Most of the games for PC use Steam as a service even if we buy it from the store....The question is will it use Steam or Origin???

Wait wait wait wait wait... CD Projekt is now going to be working with Origin? After specifically making Witcher 2 have a DRM free option? And CD Projekt (one of the few designer companies that still pushes boundaries) is signing up with EA (the masters of blandness and pandering to the masses, right alongside Activision). Damnit all to hell.

@sknight175216: Hm, valid point. I don't want to go through something like Origin and GFWL just to play a retail copy of game legitimately. Nor do I want my PC infested by many DRM. Steam is still in tolerable level but that's one too many DRM. Hopefully activating through Origin isn't part of the contract agreement for future retail copy of Sega's games.

@Everiez I agree, but at the same time look at games that ARE only on Origin. It shouldn't be that way. I don't even like the fact that I bought Skyrim at Walmart and had to activate it on Steam (not that I have anything against Steam). It's just that fact that you have to succumb to these publishers and their ridiculous forms of drm. If I wanted to buy a BIOWARE game I shouldn't have to install EA's ORIGIN to play it. If I buy a Bethesda game I shouldn't have to install Valve's Steam to play it. These things should be options and not compulsory. As far as EA goes they're greedy and God knows they'll try to get as many developer's to only sell games on Origin.

Would this really affect Valve in any way? I think Paradox Interactive, Team 17, and Sega are still relying on Steamworks as copy protection, and I'm pretty sure that Valve gets 30% of the sales from games using their DRM.

While I don't particularly like EA or Origin, it's good to see some competition for Steam; don't want one company to have a complete monopoly on PC game downloads. Also good to have something to divide PC gamers, the same as how different systems divide console gamers. Might influence PC gamers to be less arrogant and elitist.

Why does everybody hate EA so much?Lately every time a video game publishing company gets ahead in the business enough to stand out (activision, EA) gamers all over the internet throw out these stupid opinions about why they hate that company and how everyone involved with said company is either evil or doomed. The fact is EA and every other company involved with the games you play are out to make money, whether its the publishers or developers. And publishers and developers cant make the games you want to play without making said money. So shouldn't this news be good for everyone involved? EA and Sega both stand to make money, and consumers who use the origins system(I personally don't) get more choices when they decide to make their next origins purchase.
