Shadow of Mordor Can't Dethrone FIFA 15 in UK Charts

Electronic Arts' annual blockbuster FIFA 15 has retained its place atop the UK all format charts despite the appearance of three newcomers in the top five.

Two weeks ago, FIFA 15 accounted for an extraordinary 87 per cent of software revenue at retail, and despite last week's 70 percent drop in sales across retail, the soccer sim remained the most popular among the rest.

The latest Lord of the Rings game from Warner Bros, known as Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, enters the chart at second place. Sales monitor Chart-Track says the third-person action title was the biggest launch ever for a game based on The Lord of the Rings, with PS4 accounting for 56 percent of sales and Xbox One representing 41 percent.

Acclaimed racing sim Forza Horizon 2 enters at third, with about three quarters of its sales coming from the Xbox One edition, and the remainder coming from the Xbox 360 version.

Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS enters at fourth, pushing Destiny further down to fifth, with its sales dropping off another 30 percent.

Chart-Track has now decided to classify Minecraft as a cross-gen title, meaning the company combines PS4 and PS3 sales, as well as Xbox One and Xbox 360 sales in order to track the game's chart position.

With the launch of Minecraft: PS4 Edition, which accounted for 64 percent of PlayStation version sales, the game climbs from ninth to sixth.

Minecraft: Xbox Edition drops from fourth to eighth, which is hardly surprising since the Xbox One version has yet to be released.

Disney Infinity 2.0 slips from third to seventh.

The only other new entry in the chart is Crimes & Punishments: Sherlock Holmes from Focus Home Interactive/Koch, which debuts at 27.
