Game Developers Choice Awards organizers on Friday announced the nominees for this year's awards celebration, the event's 15th annual show. Leading the group is Lord of the Rings game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, which received five nominations, including one for Game of the Year.

Other games receiving multiple nominations included Alien: Isolation and Destiny, which were also both nominated for overall Game of the Year, as well as Blizzard's Hearthstone, which received three nominations. This is evidence enough that these awards aren't really for "best game" or for "best design", they're all for "Who brib- err, I mean, 'sponsors' us the most"...

It's ridiculous that Call of Duty isn't nominated for best technology it was by far the best looking game that came out last year.

<< LINK REMOVED >> While I like that Shadow of Mordor got many nominations, I don't see why DA: I wouldn't get nominated for Best Game or Best Narrative. Tales from the Borderlands has also been praised for the story, but it's also just honorably mentioned.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordornominated for Innovation is this a joke? Shadow of Mordor is a rip-off of other games bin there done that, and the nemesis system reminds me of Remember me ( Nilin's memory-remix ) nothing new there. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is a good sort game fun to play, but nominated for game of the year and Innovation, come on this developers Choice Awards is laughable

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >>Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. is a good game but it does not impress me at all. Shadow of Mordor heavenly rips-off AC, Batman, and takes the nemesis system idea from Remember Me. ( They just change the memory idea around ) The only game that Impressed me the most is the Vanishing Of Ethan Carter. A game does not have to be action pack to be good.

The only well deserved nomination for GOTY is Bayonetta 2, and the rest are passable other than Destiny which should have been replaced by DA: Inquisition. OK list of nominees for GOTY, but I am glad to see Monument Valley and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter getting nominated for more than one category.

Shadows of Mordor was quite a short game. While yes I enjoyed it, it felt like the whole of it was like a minigame within a missing whole game. The fact that Dragon Age Inquisition was beat by Hearthstone and wasn't even nominated for best narrative makes me question the validity of this choice award's choices in every field...

Agreed. It was good but other than the nemesis system, I just felt like I'd already done what this game does, many times over, in games where I'm much more invested in the protagonist, i.e. Arkham games, AC games.

I feel like Shadow of Mordor is more of a curiosity piece than it is a good game. It seems to get praise from game journalists and developers, but the public opinion is fairly tepid.

I found it very unbalanced, very difficult at the beginning and then way to easy once you unlocked certain abilities. I also found the Nemesis System to be easily exploited or in a number of cases broken. You are told to use it to make taking out war chiefs easier, yet even if you eliminate bodyguards you often still get triple-teamed once you get to the chief. This happened to me so often that the game turned into an game of systems exploitation instead of game of emersion and natural progression; this how I usually end up playing Assassin's Creed games because they get so tedious.

And let's not forget that ending...

I didn't hate Destiny, and actually found some great amounts of enjoyment in it, but it is in no way a Game of the Year contender, especially over Dragon Age or Smash Bros...and yet Destiny didn't get a design nom, only an honorable mention? These inconsistencies are why awards often bother me, and why I rarely take them seriously.

Shows how hype is more important than actually making an interesting game.

Because the vocal minority aren't the deciding factor. The reality of it all is a lot of people still play this (ikr?), and enjoy it.

Wow what a terrible set of nominees for GOTY. It's sad because all the honourable mentions are better games lol. I mean how the hell does one nominate a heap of repetive crap like Destiny over smash bros and Dragon Age? The industry is so out of touch. I want the 90s back.

D4 gets an honorable mention, but Shadow of Mordor gets an actual nomination. WTH? SoM had one of the most boring stories I have played in a long time, which is double annoying because you would expect something good from a LotR game. After 15 minutes of D4 I was already interested in the characters and I wanted to find out what was going on.
