The full schedule of speakers and panels for the Game Developers Conference 2014 hasn't been announced yet, but one can't-miss talk is already lined up. Yu Suzuki, the designer behind the unfinished Shenmue series, will be doing a post-mortem of his Dreamcast classic. PlayStation 4 lead architect and game designer Mark Cerny will translate the talk.

Industry site Gamasutra announced the hour-long session, with more details to come as we get closer to the conference.

GDC runs from March 17 to 21 here in San Francisco, but if you can't make it to the event yourself, you'll be able to watch a livestream of the talk right here on GameSpot.

Let's hope they remove the QTE.... I don't know how games are still getting away with QTE's... Honestly, I blame Shenmue! ;)

<< LINK REMOVED >> QTEs actually became popular with Resident Evil 4 and God of War. After these 2 games, almost every other game released has had QTEs. I used to like QTEs back in the day but now, they've become extremely annoying. I'm glad to see devs offering options to remove QTEs (like in Lords of Shadow 2).

<< LINK REMOVED >>While QTE sequences can be frustrating, you can't say it isn't a staple of the series. Throughout all the hours of frustration in combating the system, the final result did have a rewarding feeling. You can see it felt drawn out for you to the point you couldn't enjoy the end result - I'm just stating my feeling - but so long as the reintroduction to their QTE is tasteful and well-warned, I don't see how this could be outright hated for it. You should know what to expect. And I highly doubt if Shenmue 3 did finally arise again and included QTE that many other companies would follow suit in large numbers once again.

If thinking about the Shenmue series doesn't make you break down in tears you are not a real man.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> My dad is a powerlifter and in the military and although it may seem he never cries, I can note twice that he has. On his wedding day, and when his dad died. I would say he is a real man. Its really annoying that our society forces men to be emotionless. Its really a weakness not a strength. Nothing wrong with crying when you feel sad.

You don't put Shenmue in the topic title unless you're announcing Shenmue 3

Okay, I tracked the no reference number to a person (<< LINK REMOVED >>) on NeoGaf saying:

lacks applicant ref numbers, so it's fake. Also y'all who believe this don't talk no sense. All got poo brains. Poo brains.

Apparently this automatically proves the trademark is fake because the thread was closed down immediately afterward and many sites have updated their articles claiming the trademark is fake.

Now everything makes sense (sarcasm) beside this one little point:

The GDC conference wasn't announced until yesterday (Nov 26) but the trademark was published on (Nov 25).

Also one other small detail that may or may not be true. The application is still under examination, meaning it has not been authorized or perhaps not even looked at yet. Would a trademark company give a reference number to every application before approving it?

The trademark application does have a trademark # but why would anything that isn't approved yet require an applicant's reference #. Especially when said application could be revoked.

I have a hard time understanding why one person's comment (which by the way was rude & childish) could be taken with so much authority.

@super_tramp_tri There are quite a few Neogaf users that are industry insiders. CBoaT for instance. FamousMortimer has inside sources. Paz is a PS3/PS4 developer. Even J Allard has a Neogaf account. While I don't know who Y2Kev is, it's possible that he's speaking from experience. However, if that page was shut down, it's likely that it lacked proof. When a thread lacks substantial proof for a claim the mods generally shut it down.

Also, on the childish front, it doesn't get much more childish than CBoaT. Yet he's right. A lot. He's one of the few Neogafers who doesn't need to prove his statements. If he says something, it's assumed that it's correct or that it's very likely to happen. He's been right far too often to question him.

I sadly never played Shemnue, but i am actually hoping for another Virtua Fighter whether it's a port of an older game or even Virtua Figher 6 for next gen systems.

<< LINK REMOVED >> But read my second comment.. who could apply for a Trademark one day before this GDC announcement was made? either a very, very lucky scumbag (like a two million and 1 chance) or SEGA or it's affiliates.

Because it lacks reference numbers doesn't mean it's automatically fake, does it?

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >>, I'm not sure what to think, since it doesn't have reference numbers. I'm not sure if that automatically invalidates it or not. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

What surprises me about this Trademark is that the GDC conference wasn't announced until yesterday (Nov 26) but the trademark was published on (Nov 25). What a strange coincidence.

Shenmue III is so big Segabits can't handle it! Close to 15 years since the last game... by the time it comes out it will be 15 years and I'm still so excited for it's release. That just goes to show people how much of a lasting impression Shenmue has left on my life.

I was pretty excited when River City Ranson: Underground was successfully funded on Kickstarter.. but nothing compares to this!!!!!!

For the registration of a Community trade mark, there is a unique fee to be paid:

Basic fee:

  • EUR 900 to file online (e-filing)
  • or EUR 1050 if you use the paper form

In either case, if your application covers more than three classes of goods and services there is a fee of EUR 150 for each additional class.

Yeah.. I don't think anyone is going to fake a TM anymore.. : D

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> , exactly. You can search for the trademark that was registered on the site that SegaBits provides. I can see why many are hesitant to believe this is true, but like << LINK REMOVED >> said, you have to pay to have that form processed.

Some fans have become too sceptical over the years. I've seen this coming for a long time, because momentum has been building. It just makes sense, and it's perfect timing. There's no reason to suspect this is a fake.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I hope it is just NeoGaf talking through their buttholes again... some people over at shenmuedojo are saying the same thing.

I may be wrong but I think the TM was created a day before the conference announcement which makes this TM appear much more authentic.

It looks like it was created by Sega. The forms say Sega, and plus it was registered on the exact same day that this conference was announced. Plus, you have to pay like $150 to process this form, which is one expensive prank.

what a nice humble man. Come on Sony . Sort out the announcement. Get it done please. And give this man a job and freedom to create games. He should be doing not scrounging for airsapce and living only by Shenmue. There are other equally great games he made. Time to let him rip and start something new.

Also spoke top ASDA about PS4 as some stores are opening at midnight tomorrow to sell to people who didnt pre order which is stupid me. They told me on the phone that interest is unprecedented and think around 20 to 1 compared to XBOX 1. Queues will start at 6 pm tomorrow. They wil know by 5 pm. Clapham Junction London that is. anybody interested I will be there.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I've been waiting since 2002,lol. It would only make sense to release this on the Playstation 4, as the Japanese market for Xbox is next to zero and the Wii U sales aren't doing good, in the sense to where it would be feasible to release Shenmue III or the HD Collection. Check out some videos from Adam Koralik and he actually brings more interesting, valid points as to why only the Playstation 4 would make the most logical sense.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> well there is more than the Japanese market in the world and plus shenmue seemed to be more popular in the west than japan. also it would be a good move for ms to get it on there system to try and convince Japanese. plus the Japanese always support Japanese products so in the long run wii u will do fine
