Shippin' Out August 18-22: Too Human, Quest for Booty

I don't understand the resentment towards Too Human. After playing the games for the past few days, I actually like it, and have to force myself to stop playing so that I can get some sleep. Why did GS give it a 5.5? It's not great, but 5.5?? Maybe a 7.5. I'd have been fine with that. I don't even know why I care, hell, I like the game and that's all that matters... though I would like there to be a second one. Please finish your trilogy Silicon Knights, and try to update the game each time.

I agree with darkride66, it's like the hype for Space Siege. Given how good Silicon Knights's previous games were, it wasn't a crazy idea to believe at least some of the hype.

@ lamprey263. I thought Eternal Darkness was excellent, a breath of fresh air. It had an epic story and I can't remember anytime since that a game had so well incorporated breaking down that 4th wall during gameplay. Eternal Darkness was something very special and one of the finest, if not the finest, survival horror game to date. I think the hype surrounding Too Human was justified to anyone that played Eternal Darkness, let alone considering the brilliant Legacy of Kain.

Am I the only one not surprised Too Human got such a terrible review? I mean, I thought this game looked iffy since that stupid E307 trailer, and looked even worse with every gameplay video seen since. I think the fanboy wars where responsible for fueling the flame for this exclusive, touting it as something worth bragging about, which it never was. Don't get me wrong, I'm an X360 fanboy myself, but I could smell this piece of crap from miles away. People kept saying stuff like "Silicon Knights are such awesome developers, blah blah blah..." without really backing those statements up. Let's take a look at Silicon Knights development history: besides Too Human, SK has only made 2 other games in the last 10 years; one of those games was MGS: Twin Snakes (GameCube), a REMAKE of a game Konami already made for the PS1 6 years earlier, they basically ported it (yes yes, I know, they added some things like first person shooting, whooptie-do); Eternal Darkness was an overrated game mainly because it was the first Nintendo published M-rated game, but it pales in contrast to other survival horror games even in its time; Silicon Knights is the only company that's complained about the level of support form Epic on their UE3, while no other company has had such problems (this should have been a sign that the SK developers were too inexperienced to know what they were doing); besides all this, SK hasn't made a decent game since Legacy of Kain, that was 12 years ago. And then there's the demo we all got to play, when we finally got to hear people who actually played the game say it sucked, which I've been saying was going to happen all along. But still, people are in denial over this like somehow all the critics wrote these reviews together while smoking crack, saying instead that the reviews were disappointing and not the game. Seriously, pull your head out of your ass.

On one hand I really feel bad the for developers involved with Too Human, it is never easy to see a project not go over well. However the creators also seemed more interested in the publicity surrounding the game than actually completing it.

hey i went to best buy today and they told me too human comes out tomorrow. did anyone else have that problem

I thought castle crashers was this week? Damn!

I am disappointed in Gamespot, what a poorly written review for Too Human the editorial staff should be ashamed. The score does not equal written content in that review. I miss J. Gerstmann, A. Navaro, R. Davis, and B. Shoemaker reviews and thats odd.

I have to say, i'm a little disappointed by Too Human's review. I played the demo and absolutely loved it. I was certain the game would score at least an 8.0. But then again, I didn't think Metal Gear Solid 4 should have received a ten. You will spend more time watching MGS than playing - in fact, the ending cutscene is over an hour long. Anyway, the Too Human review seems off to me - i would suggest renting first.You might be pleasantly surprised.

@dewwy and peetowser. I am not saying it is a bad game. I actually tried the demo multiple time with the different classes as soon as it was released. Just hard justifying spending $60 on a 'mediocre' game when there are other games coming out Sept-Nov that I know I will enjoy more.

Too Human isnt a gem, but it sure as heck deserves better than the treatment Haze got... I got a PS3 too and that Haze bashing was just silly. I'm not about to get into a similar mess with Too Human just because now it's the XBox's turn lol... Whatever the console is, those arguments are silly : people repeating a game they never played sucks because they read so many reviews... The heck is that anyways, reading 7 reviews but not even playing the game?? Stop relying on reviews guys, just rent it to try. Half of my favorite games got crappy reviews, sometimes the reviewers just don't like the same stuff we do etc... I'm not trying to sell Too human, as I've said it's far from perfect but not even playing a game and start badmouthing it just because some reviewer said it sucked is stupid. Try it then call it thrash I don't care, but Silicon Knights were one of the breakout devs in the PS1 years with Legacy of Kane and I'll always respect them for that awesome game... I'm not saying I liked every one of their games, but I will make a point to at least play through them before knocking them into the ground... And just because I don't like any said game doesn't mean it sucks IMO... Unless the game is badly executed i.e. poor control, it just means that game's not for me, not for my tastes, nothing more...

Looks like the xbox360 gets their HAZE like game in Too Human. BUT before we start flaming each other lets just remember that we are all gamers and we already have a label. Lets not turn this into another Fanboy war both systems have good games and thanks to their existence we do get to see some unique games and get to have a great time playing.

Too Human is actually a good game, and I have no idea how it's been getting poor reviews. I highly recommend you try the demo on XBL. Odds are if you like it you'll like the full game.

I was really looking forward to picking up Too Human but now like darkride66, I will probably catch it used after a price drop or in the $20 and under bin.

Wow... epic skip week. I guess Mega Man is ok, but I don't feel like rebuying it... and own no PS3, so I can't dis any of those games.

Hey an old school game on VC i'm amazed now if they'd just keep it up, although of course i've already got mega man collections that have it :p.

Ouch, talk about a slow week. Good thing I'm playing GTA IV for the next two weeks. And, for the record its a 9, maybe a 9.5. Still no love for the PSP? Good thing it can play videos... sheeesh.

I've been a big fan of the Silicon Knights work since the first Legacy of Kain. Maybe I'll pick up Too Human one of these days or when it hits the bargain bins in two weeks, whichever comes first.

I am having such mixed emotions. If this game is getting such bad reviews maybe I should wait a couple of weeks and let it go down in price. Either way im buying it, The game looks great. The only thing I dont like is how the camera angles can be such a turn off in my opinion.

Man I am buying this game. It looks beautiful and amazing. What bothers me is people play it and say it sucked. U gotta be kidding me. It is not meant to be a devil may cry or god of war. It is an RPG game based on a new model of role playing intead of the classic you go i go theme. I will admit the only problem I have with this game is the camera angles however I love the feel and the story line is top notch and im most impressed with the 360's take on this. I am happy it is finally coming out. Way to go too human.

Normally I wouldn't put to much stock in reviews but with the amount of games comming out before Christmas, I am going to have to be very selective and I have a bad feeling about Too Human.

As for R&C: Quest for Booty, IGN gave it a 7.4 for it's length and it's lack of advancement and depth, which I find kind of weird since the point of it is that it's a 2-4 hour, $15 bridge between Tools of Destruction and the sequel. While on the other hand, 1UP game it a B, which is think is pretty good. I don't know, I just wish they'd package it with Tools of Destruction, and add in some trophies and custom soundtracks. Then I'd gladly drop $40 or $50 on that, but I just don't like spending more then $10 on anything that's not on a disc. As for Too Human, I really disliked the demo. Found it to be pretty lame in my opinion. Didn't like the camera or the combat, though the impression I got is that the customization and item collection are pretty deep. GamePro gave it a 4/5, IGN gave it a 7.8, Game Informer gave it a 6.75, 1UP gave it a C-, and GameSpot gave it a 5.5. Doesn't sound to me like my impressions from the demo were far off from the final game. I don't have the budget to give that a try. I'll be staying far away from that. I would LOVE to pick up Galaga Legions, but with Rock Band 2 coming out in a few weeks, and then LittleBigPlanet, GH: World Tour, Gears 2, and Resistance 2, I just don't have the money to spend. Sorry Galaga, I'll come back to you sometime next year =(

IGN's review of Too Human seemed much more fair and, since I've been playing the game for a few hours now, more accurate.

wow lost all my respect for too human after reading all the review.. dont think i'll be getting it now..

doesn't that make it the second Ratchet and Clank game for the PS3 in its...what, 1.5 year life so far? Hope Too Human gets more credit from the gamers than it does from the reviewers. And yay Galaga Legions..ONE MORE WEEK TILL CASTLE CRASHERS

I seem to be interested in only Too Human on those release date listing. I guess I gotta read the Too Human Review to see if the game is good or not.

So far the reviews for too human are looking less than steller (although only two reviews are up as of right now on metacritic.com)

Too Human and R&C: Quest for Booty are my only interests for this week, but Too Human hasn't received good reviews so far. Game Informer gave it a 6.75 and 1UP gave it a C-. Can't wait to see what GS and IGN say. Depending on their feedback, I might pick up TH.
