Shippin' Out November 26-30: Geometry Wars: Galaxies, Cruis'n

The industry takes a breather this week, as headliners join Boogie on the DS, Puzzle Quest on the Wii, and Asteroids on XBLA.

Last week, the gaming industry served up a heavily laden platter of blockbuster games in an effort to wrest gamers away from their Thanksgiving-day feasts. This week, though, the flow of games slowed to a mere trickle.

While Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners are largely free to idly pick at last week's remnants, Wii owners have a small variety of new temptations this week. Midway will take aim at hardcore gamers on December 10 with the PS3 Unreal Tournament III, but this week the publisher is releasing the family-friendly parlor-game compilation Game Party, as well as the latest iteration in the classic arcade driving series Cruis'n. The Wii's casual library continues its rapid growth as D3 conquers yet another platform with its acclaimed Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords and Ubisoft releases Cranium Kabookii, a digital translation of the popular board game.

Games for the Nintendo DS account for the vast remainder of this week's offerings. EA will undoubtedly be hoping to improve upon the less-than-groovy Wii version of Boogie with a 3D glasses-enabled DS version this week. Sierra Entertainment will also continue its manhunt on intergalactic polyhedrons in Geometry Wars: Galaxies, a Wii version of which was released last week. Nintendo also pulls Master of Illusion out of its hat for its popular portable.

Three new downloadable offerings have landed on the Wii's Virtual Console, with the NES classic Double Dribble bouncing for 500 Wii points ($5), whereas Vegas Stakes and Ecco Jr. go fish for 800 Wii points ($8) each. Atari's classic arcade shooter Asteroids and Asteroids Deluxe are bundled into one 400 Microsoft-point package ($5) as Xbox Live Arcade's weekly Wednesday update.

This week's new releases are listed below (list taken from retailer information--actual dates may vary).

Oh, had anoter look. I'll probably pick up Speedball 2 as well, too many fond memories of the game on the commodore 64 to pass it up.

Nothing for me this week. Which is a good thing. Mass Effect is taking up all my time right now and still have a load of other games to play when I finish that.

Okay week. I may look into Asteroids but I usually get bored of that after a few minutes. Waiting until the Fall update (Dec. 4 I believe) to download Crash: Wrath of Cortex; can't wait.

I wish that History Channel games could be handled by a more competent studio... Civil War was the kindof idea that could have made for an awesome game if handled by the right people, but it was released as budget wreckage instead. I mean, think about the possibilities. Games based on Revolution-era America, or a sea battle game set in 1812 or something... or an adventure game based on Hannibal's march to Rome. Or a samurai game handled by people who know how everything went down over in the Land of the Rising Sun. Man, don't y'all know what I'd GIVE for a good next-gen samurai game!?

*Waits for Unreal Tournament III on PS3* Sorry, but between last week and the week of Dec 11th, there is nothing else worth talking about coming out. Geometry Wars: Galaxies is mediocre at best, and Puzzle Quest on Wii, no matter how good of a puzzle game it is, can't save this week from sucking.

Wow people are complaining. ARE YOU SERIOUSLY DONE WITH UNCHARTED AND MASS EFFECT!? And how can you seriously be critical of this week after having not a slew, but a catapult of amazing games? Either you can beat Mass Effect in a flash or you are so spoiled you make Paris Hilton look like a girl scout.

Switch out double dribble on the virtual console with double dragon and it'd make the week somewhat decent. As of now? Basically nothing coming out thats worth your time probably.

Pretty ugly week. I've still got hopes for Cruis'n though. The game is ugly as sin, and from the screenshots I've seen, I'd dare say it looks worse than the N64 versions. But Cruis'n World on the N64 was one of my favorite racers. Just a nice simple pick-up and play racer that was a lot of fun. Really crossing my fingers for this one. . .

Wow, what a bogus week. However, it's nice to me since I'm still hurting from buying Stranglehold, Ratchet & Clank, Call of Duty 4, Assassin's Creed, and Rock Band. I've only just finished playing Assassin's Creed, and Call of Duty and Rock Band are taking center stage in my PS3 right now...
