TDK Mediactive has announced that its first Xbox game will also be the first console game to be released under its multiyear licensing partnership with DreamWorks. The company will release a game based on DreamWorks' CG movie Shrek for the launch of Microsoft's next-generation console this fall. TDK Mediactive, in cooperation with DreamWorks, plans to create new characters and settings for the Xbox game. Sandbox Studios, whose previous works include Dinosaur and The Emperor's New Groove, is working with TDK Mediactive on the game's development.

"TDK Mediactive is excited to be part of the first wave of the Xbox experience, especially with such a high-profile license. Shrek is a great video game character," said Vincent Bitetti, CEO of TDK Mediactive. "This is our first future-generation console title announcement, and we couldn't be more pleased with the support we have received from DreamWorks and Microsoft in this endeavor."

TDK Mediactive promises that, using the power of the Xbox console, the game's visuals will closely rival those of the CG movie. The company plans to release further information on the game in the near future. GameSpot will have those details as they become available. The movie version of Shrek follows the exploits of an ogre who must rescue a princess and restore several familiar fairy tale characters to their homes.
