Smite's New Daily Quest System Being Changed Already

Big adjustments coming, and daily login bonuses are returning.

Not long after introducing a new daily quest system in Smite, Hi-Rez Studios is already changing the way it works in response to players' complaints.

Daily quests were added during a recent patch as a replacement for the existing daily login bonus setup. This, in theory, alleviated the need to sign in every single day in order to rack up rewards; the previous system penalized you for missing even a day, preventing you from getting the most desirable rewards without getting online every day for week.

But daily quests presented new problems. Most notably, they could require large amounts of time to complete. As Hi-Rez puts it, daily quests "required a large dedication of time that was too extreme for the average user, and the increased strain had a negative impact on the user experience where our goal was to make something enjoyable that encouraged play variety."

The proposed solution, which will be implemented in patch 3.1, sees daily quests transform into weekly quests. You'll get two quests per week, and completing them both will net you 30 gems (the game's premium currency that otherwise costs real-world money to obtain). As is currently the case, you can still choose to re-roll one quest if you're unhappy with one of the two you receive.

"[I]nstead of needing to complete 14 you only need to complete two over the course of a week," Hi-Rez explains. "We feel this will give a good amount of time for players to complete their quests while also lessening the immediate need to complete these over the course of a single play session."

The studio also says it wants to introduce "more dynamic and interesting quests in the future." For now it'll be sticking with what's already in place, meaning you'll continue doing things like playing two games as a certain class or three as gods from a certain pantheon. It is, however, removing the quest that involves playing three games as a Japanese god, as there aren't yet enough characters from that pantheon in the game.

Alongside these changes, Hi-Rez plans to bring back the daily login system. It'll function just as it did before, offering the same rewards (and, presumably, penalty for missing a day). Those who complete a week of logins and their two weekly quests will earn a total of 80 gems.

There's not yet a date for the release of patch 3.1 on PC. Xbox One players, meanwhile, continue to wait for the big season three patch that introduces daily quests in the first place.

Cool and all, but this doesn't fix Season 3. Nothing would. If they won't revert the changes to the meta (which they won't), this game is finished. And I doubt it would be just for competitive people like me. In the end nobody enjoys 100% one-sided matches with the same characters every time.

What's curious to me is how someone over there couldn't see the rage coming over this new system. It is was so obvious.

The daily quests did seem a little extreme and I'm glad they are keeping the daily log in bonus.

The thing I don't like about daily quests for this sort of thing is that by the time I get caught up with them, I no longer feel like playing the game. All I did with my time was play something that the game told me to play rather than me playing what I actually want to play, which sometimes they're one of the same but more often than not they're mutually exclusive.

@jinzo9988: I think just making the quests something as simple as "win x amount of games" or something would be a simple solution to that.
