TOKYO--About the only thing that Metal Gear's Solid Snake and Final Fantasy's Sephiroth have in common is that they're both good at stabbing people in the back. But that won't stop them from appearing together in another company's game, looking more cuddly and harmless than stealthy and ruthless.
At the 2008 Tokyo Game Show, Sony Computer Entertainment unveiled two surprise collaborations for its upcoming PlayStation 3 title, Little Big Planet. As downloadable content, the game will feature in-game "Sackboy" editions of chain-smoking antihero Old Snake from Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4, and Silver-haired swordsman Sephiroth from Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII.
"To be involved with MGS is...slightly bizarre," Media Molecule's Alex Evans told the official PlayStation Blog. "When we were looking at what options as a studio we'd have to work with, they were under the 'Yeah, right!" category." As for Final Fantasy, Evans explained, "It's a whole universe, and they've built up this ethos. And we're honored to be let into that universe."
The Metal Gear Solid pack is scheduled for a December release, but the Final Fantasy VII pack doesn't have a date yet. Sony plans to make both costumes available in North America and Europe as well as Japan. More details, including prices, will be revealed in the near future.
