SNES and GBA Remix could happen, but will require fan demand

The NES Remix series may extend beyond the Nintendo Entertainment System's games in the future.

With the release of NES Remix 2 this week, Nintendo will have developed two remixed compilations of classic games originally released for the Nintendo Entertainment System. NES games are hardly the only ones that lend themselves to being remixed, though, and it's possible games for the Super Nintendo or Game Boy Advance could be next--but the prospect of a GBA Remix or SNES Remix will be dependent on fan demand.

"If we get a big enough cry for that, with a lot of people saying, 'Hey, we'd love to see more of these perhaps for the SNES, Game Boy, or Game Boy Advance,' then it would be something we can take a look at," NES Remix director Koichi Hayashida told IGN. He also stated he has "a large desire to explore that very idea."

NES and Game Boy games have been on Nintendo's Virtual Console service for some time. Game Boy Advance games, on the other hand, only recently became available for sale, albeit exclusively on the Wii U.

According to Hayashida, fan support could also encourage Nintendo to explore the possibility of including classic third-party games in future Remix releases. (Everything in the first two NES Remix games was created by Nintendo.) He didn't offer any additional details on the prospect of this, although considering it would require the cooperation of third-party publishers, the possibility of this is not entirely up to Nintendo.

The original NES Remix was released in December, with the sequel set to be released this Friday, April 25. Both are available only on the Wii U--something we recently learned was due to a need for more system power than the 3DS could easily provide.

<< LINK REMOVED >> They aren't full games. Both NES Remix games are minigame compilations similar to Warioware.

I would like to see some more 3D side scroll platform remakes like Donkey Kong Country Returns and New Super Mario Bros. That includes Contra, River City Ransom (4 players), Megaman, Metroid, Ghost n Goblins, Kid Icarus, Guerrilla Wars and Battletoads. If they remake them similar to how they remade the former two I would definitely buy.

I've bought one of both 3DS models and over 15 games on it. Was also waiting for some SNES/GBA ports in the Nintendo eshop on the damn thing for a while now. Does Nintendo feel we're not supporting them enough if we don't have a WiiU?

The WiiU with emulation and the past catalog, does seem a holding pattern and will succeed. The GBA, SNES, Gameboy back catalog seems to be popular and sells. As evidenced on the WiiU Multiverse.

People don't buy the Wii U because there's not enough games for it. What more demand for MORE GAMES do you need? Ah but you're too distracted by a non-wearable health device to worry about a system that has had one foot in the grave since it launched because you tried to catch lightning in a bottle a second time with a touchpad gimmick when all the casual Wii owners have moved onto smartphone and tablet games.

Normally I'd be skeptical, but Nintendo is pretty good at listening to mob mentality. (**See Operation Rainfall)

<< LINK REMOVED >> I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or not. Stupid internet :( In any case, they didn't listen to that operation as other companies had to publish two of the three main games of the operation and there were still many other games people BEGGED them to publish that they never did. Even then, Xenoblade, the game that they did publish saw a limited release and was only available at Gamestop and Nintendo's website where as The Last Story and Pandora's tower were available everywhere and had bigger shipments.

<< LINK REMOVED >> PSP can handle PS1 games so the 3DS can handle NES games. Games that are at most 8 bits when they have games on the 3DS that are up to 20GB I believe. 3DS can handle N64 games as the DS got slightly downgraded N64 ports and the 3DS was running PS2 game ports as well. Capcom even remade Super Street Fighter IV for the 3DS with it looking highly similar to the console version which was a PS3 and 360 game. In any case, they're full of crap.
