"Take notes!"

DreamWorks recently showed off a first look at Shrek 5, and among the many reactions from fans was commentary about how the art style for Shrek and his family was not quite hitting the eye right. People commented that Shrek's new character design was looking a little off since we last saw him. The official Sonic the Hedgehog movie TikTok account had a pretty fantastic response.

Many will recall how the original Sonic the Hedgehog movie design for the blue blur left much to be desired, with fans loudly voicing their opinions about how Sonic just didn't look right. The filmmakers undertook a redesign process and the Sonic movie series has now made one billion dollars.

In a TikTok video, the Sonic account said, "For any green ogres looking for advice," with footage of the old Sonic model and the new and improved one. The video was captioned, "Take notes!"

Shrek 5 brings back the main cast, including Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona. Zendaya joins the cast in Shrek 5 as Shrek and Fiona's daughter, Felicia. The movie comes to theaters in December 2026.

As you can see in the comparison image below, Shrek did indeed seem to get something of a redesign for Shrek 5. As of yet, the team at DreamWorks hasn't shared anything about its intentions or design choices for the next movie in the series.

Shrek 5 is the first new Shrek movie since 2010's Shrek Forever After. The movie franchise debuted in 2001, with Shrek 2 following in 2004 and Shrek the Third coming in 2007. There were holiday spin-offs, too, including Shrek the Halls and Scared Shrekless. Shrek 2 remains the highest-grossing movie in the series, bringing in more than $930 million worldwide. The four main movies have grossed more than $3 billion together.

The success of the main Shrek series led to the 2011 spin-off Puss in Boots, featuring the voice of Antonio Banderas, with a sequel, The Last Wish, coming in 2022. The original Shrek movies received video game tie-ins, and the newest official Shrek game was 2024's Shrek Swamp Tycoon inside Roblox.

Beyond movies and video games, the Shrek franchise has inspired many memes and helped propel the band Smash Mouth to new levels of success thanks to the song "All Star." The DreamWorks land at the Universal Orlando theme park features a dedicated Shrek area, and merchandise for the Shrek series continues to be popular.
