Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 zooms to WiiWare
Nintendo Store Update: Latest chapter in 2D blue blur saga hits download hub alongside Triple Jumping Sports; DSiWare welcomes Ivy the Kiwi? Mini, Datamine, and G.G. Series Super Hero Ogre.
Five new titles come to the Nintendo Store today, but the one with all the hype surrounding it is the one starring the legendary blue blur.
Leading the charge is the first episode in the new Sonic the Hedgehog series. From Sega, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 (1,500 Wii points, or $15) casts players as the legendary blue blur, zipping, zooming, and collecting coins around all-new 2D environments. The title picks up right where Sonic and Knuckles left off and tasks players with defeating Dr. Eggman's most devious schemes. The title was first announced in 2009 as Project Needlemouse and was scheduled to arrive this summer before suffering a delay.
Also hitting WiiWare this week is Triple Jumping Sports (500 Wii points, or $5). As its name suggests, the title consists of multiple triple-jumping competitive events. Players will take part in the long jump, high jump, and pole vault. Further, gamers will be able to control their avatar's speed, height, angle, and distance.
Switching to DSiWare, Nintendo added three new titles to the hub today, the first of which is Ivy the Kiwi? Mini (500 DSi points, or $5). From Xseed Games, the title resembles its Wii cousin. Players are cast as the flightless bird Ivy on a search for her lost mother. The title promises 50 stages full of puzzles, enemies, and more.
The next title arriving on DSiWare today is Datamine (500 DSi points, or $5). The game casts players as the safety inspector at the largest data storage facility in the world. Unfortunately, the character is not the brightest, and due to his laziness, the world's data cache is gone. Now, the player must embark on a journey to retrieve the data through a series of 100 arcade-style levels. Players control a robot and must shoot data bubbles to collect the precious items.
The last digital ware arriving today is G.G. Series Super Hero Ogre (200 DSi points, or $2). From Genterprise Inc., the 2D side-scrolling action game puts players into the boots of a hero who punches, kicks, and uses special moves to defeat enemies.
