Sony Pulls "World's Fastest Platinum Trophy" Game From PSN

It's gone.

A game that promised the "world's fastest platinum Trophy" has been pulled from the PlayStation Store, according to the title's creator. ★★★★★ 1000 Top Rated is a tile-sliding puzzle game whose developer claimed you could earn its platinum Trophy in under 20 minutes.

Now, however, Sony has apparently pulled the game from PSN. The game's creator, Top Rated, states the platform holder "has pulled the game temporarily and asked me to change the game's name and not mention Trophies in the Store trailer." The developer says it's happy to comply, but it doesn't know when the game will be live once again.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Sony Pulls "World's Fastest Platinum Trophy" Game From PSN

The title is a simple puzzle game that costs $0.98, seemingly designed purely to offer an easy platinum Trophy. It's unclear if the platinum will remain when the title returns to PSN--some downloadable games do not offer the prize, sticking only to bronze, silver, and gold Trophies.

We'll keep you updated if the game returns to the PlayStation Store.

A Platinum Trophy in 20 minutes ? If its that easy - it should not be Platinum..or even Bronze for that matter.

Good. Wanting to sell their games based on their trophies instead of quality deserves punishment. Platinum trophies should be HARD to get or there's no point to them. Its a bragging rights thing but if people want to brag then they should work for it. I remember when people said "I've 20 platinums" and I thought they were serious gamers, now with Telltale games offering beyond easy platinum's and games like these, when someone says the same it means close to nothing

@Vatusus: I pretty much agree here. I have about 61 Plats atm and a good number of those are easy ones to obtain. Game of Thrones Telltale, Terminator Salvation. But there are some such as GTA IV (100% I'd like to add) and Sonic Unleashed that I can be proud to say 'yeah, they were tough'.

@Sepewrath: Your hate makes you blind to the truth: they do mean exactly what they say. They're a progress meter. Looks like you hate the braggers more than the concept itself though, which is kind of understandable. No time to compete against them? I sure don't have it but I don't hate either. I have very few trophies but it doesn't bother me. I still like them.

@Sepewrath: They do. They mean you mastered a game. If someone has the platinum for a hard game I will take them as serious gamers. As I said, bragging rights only, but they have to be deserved

@Vatusus: It doesn't mean you mastered anything. It generally just means you chased the time suck goals the developer set out. Anyone with a lot of time and a wiki on hand can do the same. I've been playing games for a long time, long before there was even an XBOX or a Playstation, let alone trophies and achievements. It seems to be a generational thing where people need a pat on the back for every little thing they do. The game itself use to be good enough, now people need the pat on the back on top of the game. Hell things like this and examples of bad games with easy achievements show that for some, they matter more than the game now.

@Sepewrath: I partially agree with you, but I also think that getting all the trophies can be an incentive to replay (and to play more in-depth) a game you already finished. It gives an objective to games that don't have one anymore.

I decided to get all the Demon's Souls trophies because it's a good game (it was the first time, I usually don't care about trophies), since getting the trophies gave me an "excuse" to play it more after having finished it.

@wulf_haunter:And in Metroid Prime 3, you got points for doing certain actions that could be used to buy rewards in game--that still didn't make them matter.

I want to say that this is really dumb, but I once played through Terminator Salvation for a platinum trophy. Although, at least to get that one I had to muscle through a broken, awful game on hard mode.

@muzza93: I believe so. And then one more gold trophy for beating the game on hard mode.

Honestly, I recommend the game to anyone getting into game design or journalism. It's a great example of what not to do in a game.

I thought Sony had a rule that only full-priced games could offer platinum trophies.

@PlatinumPaladin: Nah there are $<5 games that have platinums and $40 games that don't. There are also games where you do everything in a couple hours with platinums and games with a ton of content and/or difficulty that don't. I'm not really sure what the criteria is anymore.

@PlatinumPaladin: ANY full priced game could easily drop to $4.99 if it's on sale on the PS Store. I've seen games without Platinum Trophies sell for more than games like Street Fighter V have sold for due to sales.

Sony is headed towards turning PSN into Steam or mobile marketplaces with these kinda "games." Notice they only asked dev to change names and descriptions but it'll probably come back afterwards.

Sony already have their classification and vetting process screwed up in not assigning plats based on a rational of, say, length or skill. Games like Resident Evil 4, Outlast, SOMA, Beyond Good & Evil, Quantum Conundrum, Hard Corps Uprising and some other difficult PSN games with no plats but trash like this gets one because they paid more money to Sony or whatever the actual reason is.

Here's a thread with more examples of actual games with no plats: https://forum.psnprofiles.com/topic/34035-what-games-deserve-a-platinum/

Way to devalue what little merit the system has remaining in the first place.

20 minutes? Psh, when I saw the title of this article, I thought it was about Aabs Animals. That one lets you get the platinum trophy by leaving the game running for 5.25 minutes.

I try to finish a game first without looking at the trophies. If I liked a game, trophy hunting gives me a good opportunity to experience the same game in a completely different way. As some game devs intend to do, a well-designed trophy list can add an extra dimension to a game.

@mithrava: I'm the same way. I like to finish a game blind first, then if I really enjoyed it, I go back for trophies. My latest example is Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel. Currently getting ready for a Nightmare play-through(my 3rd play-through) for platinum before moving on to part 2.

i admit i do care for trophies a bit. i think they can (sometimes) provide a nice additional challenge by doing certain action you otherwise wouldn't think of and prolong a game's life and replayability. but i always care about the game 1st and i would never buy a game that doesn't look fun to me just to get more trophies. in fact the days when i tried all genres is long gone (ps2-era) and i only purchase a few certain games each year of which i know they fall into my genre or sound exciting enough (e.g. this year i only purchased darkest dungeon and prey so far). when i really like a game (after i played it through a couple of times) i try to get platinum, but if it is too annoying to get, like spending an enormous amount of time grinding or playing an MP i don't like or (worst-case scenario:) a trophy is bound to driving a vehicle within a certain time then i stop to care about it.

On the other hand if i like that specific type of grind i might just do it. RE Revelations' Raid Mode had you do an insane amount of kills for a trophy, which took a long time, but since i enjoyed that mode it didn't bother me.

In the best case trophies have you doing something you wouldn't otherwise do, but something that is weirdly fun to try. Like cutting off a Necromorph's arm, impale him with it, make him fly 20m and stick to a wall. Though this might be a bad example since i did that all the time to conserve ammo, but you get my point.

Why do people care about trophies or achievements, its kind of pointless. I mean i would understand if you collected, like 10 platinum trophies and Sony offered you a free game of your choice as a reward or something like that, then there is an actual point to collecting trophies.

@dudebropartyyo: They are intended as a progress meter. I like them - I can look up which game I played, when and how far I got on it. As long as you don't let the fun of getting them turn you into an obsessed maniac they're helpful.

@dudebropartyyo: I can't speak for anyone but myself, and I'm sure there are those that do it for "bragging rights", but I like them for nothing more than a sense of accomplishment for myself and no one else. It's nice to look at that trophy list and say, "looks like I got everything out of that game that the dev. put in". I do however like your idea of a free game for 10 trophies, they should definitely implement that!

Never really cared about Trophies and Achievements, but I understand why a lot of other people are addicted to piling them up. The easiest Platinum's I've come across are the TellTale games. I played the Batman game and got the trophy in probably 4-5 hours of gameplay. Same with Game of Thrones, Tales from the Boarderlands, etc. At least some of those are enjoyable to play.

@dudebropartyyo: You know, Microsoft messed around with doing something like that. I don't know why it didn't happen (or maybe it did, and didn't last? idk), but they were talking about earning rewards, and prizes for accumulating certain gamer score levels. It's definitely a neat idea--maybe earn 10-25% off coupon codes for PSN, or 3 months free of PSplus, for getting a certain number of trophies during a given period. Incentives are always a compelling idea.

Trophies are a waste of time. I could care less about them.

I never played for them before achievements were a thing and I don't do it now.

Only thing I ever use trophies for is proof that I beat the game and I usually start on the hardest difficulty available from the very beginning so the stacking trophies prove that as well.

Outside of that I view them as garbage fluff.

I used to go all in on trophies playing all sorts of trash and kids games for the easy platinums. I'm so glad I got over that because I wasted so many hours playing junk and grinding trophies that could have been spent catching up on real games.

If I hadn't wasted all those 100's of hours maybe I'd not have a triple digit game backlog lol
