Sony San Diego Studio Sees Major Layoffs, But MLB Team Untouched

Sony San Diego teams behind Drawn to Death and Guns Up were also unaffected by the layoffs.

In the same day of reports saying Sony laid off employees at its London Studio, we hear that the company has also cut jobs at SIE San Diego Studio. The Californian developer is best known for the MLB: The Show series, and the specific team responsible for the baseball games has been left untouched.

"We can confirm there has been a reduction in headcount at San Diego Studio," a Sony representative confirmed to GameSpot. "The teams working on MLB The Show, Drawn to Death, and Guns Up have not been affected. We continually evaluate teams and programs at SIE Worldwide Studios to ensure we have the proper resources in place to deliver innovative products within a competitive landscape.

"As projects are completed, it is natural to review and restructure teams around current and future needs. We wish our departing team members success as they pursue new opportunities and we have nothing but heart-felt thanks for their contributions to PlayStation."

In addition to MLB, San Diego Studio worked on the free-to-play PS4 title Kill Strain, as well as collaborated on LittleBigPlanet Karting.

Sony's internal studios have never been that good, so whatever. It's better that they put the money into more proven studios like Naughty Dog.

@7tizz: Er...no, this is not a big deal at all. It's not studio closure, just layoffs. Of course, you'd try to make it seem like a big deal. Are you going for a record or something?

Btw, when are you going to change your avatar? It's no longer accurate.
