Sorry NBA Jam fans, that tweet teasing a sequel was a fake

EA Sports confirms tweet teasing new entry in the over-the-top basketball franchise was "unauthorized."

A tweet from the official NBA Jam Twitter account this week teasing a new entry in the over-the-top basketball series was the result of "unauthorized" use of the account, Electronic Arts has confirmed.

"Yesterday, there was unauthorized use of the @nbajam Twitter handle," an EA representative told Joystiq. "We do not have any announcements to make about NBA Jam at this time."

Interestingly, the tweet in question remains on the NBA Jam Twitter account and has been retweeted nearly 500 times. It's unclear if the account was hacked by an outside party or if the tweet came from an EA Sports developer.

Whatever the case, it doesn't sound like the NBA Jam franchise is coming back anytime soon. EA revived the series in 2010 with NBA Jam before an updated On Fire Edition launched in 2011 alongside versions for iOS and Android devices.

Uh, O.K. The game was fun about 10 times then it got very repetitive. Don't know why they are trying to milk this now after so many years of a hiatus.

I'm happy. Do we really want EA ruining another franchise?

<< LINK REMOVED >> I disagree. EA actually did right with NBA Jam. It's NBA Live that they've ruined.

<< LINK REMOVED >> So am I. If I want NBA Jam I'll play NBA Jam on SNES or NBA Jam Tournament Edition on SNES. Hell, I may even play the newer one on XBLA.

They didn't say it was hacked. It remains. It was "Unauthorized." Nowhere does it say a new NBA Jam ISN'T coming...HMMMMMM.

No announcements to make "AT THIS TIME." Read between the lines! It's coming, they're just not telling us yet.

Of course it was fake, or did you really expect EA to do something right.

Last was fine I guess, but it got stale pretty quick. Plus, the rosters get outdated pretty quickly too. No need for a sequel/reboot for the series anymore.

<< LINK REMOVED >> maybe if they had kept it update it would have worked, but they pretty much forgot about it after 2011.
