Space Channel 5: Part 2 hits XBL, PSN next month

Dreamcast dance game and Sega Bass Fishing making stand-alone downloadable debuts October 4 for PlayStation Store, October 5 on Xbox Live Marketplace.

It's been nearly a year since Sega first announced that Space Channel 5: Part 2 and Sega Bass Fishing would be added to both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 downloadable storefronts, but both titles have yet to appear on either. That's going to change soon, as Sega today announced that both games would launch on the PlayStation Network October 4, followed by an Xbox Live Arcade debut October 5.

PS3 gamers can finally tune into Space Channel 5 next month.
PS3 gamers can finally tune into Space Channel 5 next month.

Originally released in Japan in 2002, the Dreamcast version of Space Channel 5 Part 2 was never released outside of Japan. The rhythm action game followed the ongoing exploits of dancing galactic news reporter Ulala. It also featured a cameo from Michael Jackson, who had previously worked with Sega on the Moonwalker arcade and Genesis games. The late King of Pop appears in Space Channel 5 Part 2 as Space Michael and shows off a few dance moves of his own.

Sega Bass Fishing dates back a bit earlier, as the game was released in North America in September of 1999, shortly after the Dreamcast's launch. A port of a 1997 arcade game, Sega Bass Fishing has players choosing the right combination of fishing locations and lures to land the biggest catch possible, paying close attention to line tension and rod height as they haul in their prospective trophy.

While this will mark the first time either game has been downloadable for the Xbox 360, both appeared as part of the Dreamcast Collection released at retailers earlier this year. That package--also available in downloadable form on the PC--included Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure in addition to Space Channel 5: Part 2 and Sega Bass Fishing.

@Infinity-Gauntl Wasn't the first Space Channel 5 a Dreamcast game? It has to be much harder to port to PS3 than a PS2 game like the Part 2.

I had the PS2 compilation of these games. Really fun stuff, but I could've lived without the scene of Ulala being molested by a tentacle plant monster.

They'll be 800 MSP each according to another news feed. Hard copy still works out better value. JSR and JSF would be nice to have in a collection, but if the music has to be replaced due to licensing issues as it has in Crazy Taxi, they probably shouldn't bother.

Effing finally! Though Part 2 DID get released outside of Japan with the Space Channel 5 Special Edition release on the PS2, which has both part 1 and part 2.

Man they sure did this backwards (thinking Plants vs Zombies disc that came out after the XBLA version did). If anybody really wanted these two games, why wouldn't they have bought the Compilation Disc in January? Don't imagine this will get them a whole lot of DL sales.

And no doubt 1200 MSP like the others - folks, get the collection with the four games off Amazon** for less than a tenner new - an actual tangible product you can hold in your hands for less. **(Other online retailers may be available)
