Spider-Man Week - The Villains

Without evil super-villains there would be no noble super-heroes. To celebrate this we take a closer look at exactly who Spider-Man will be going up against in his new PlayStation game.

Scorpion

Scorpion

Real Name: Mac Gurgan
First Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #20
Mac Gurgan was originally a private investigator hired by J. Jonah Jameson to trail Peter Parker (whom he suspected of cavorting with Spider-Man). However, upon catching wind of an experimental human/animal splicing technique, JJJ quickly decided that an en-pincered Gurgan would be the ideal way to dispose of the wretched wall-crawler. Though all parties agreed, things went terribly wrong, and the serum wrecked Gurgan's sanity. Bound to a deadly, vicious scorpion suit and brimming with criminal insanity, Scorpion desires nothing other than the deaths of Spider-Man and Jameson. Expect to save JJJ's hide from Scorpion, however tempting that seems.

Dr. Octopus

Doctor Octopus

Real Name: Otto Octavius
First Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #3
Otto Octavius, world-renowned nuclear physicist and inventor, is one of Spider-Man's most dreaded foes. Presumably, the very accident that bonded his metallic tentacles to his body is what drove him into the world of super-villainhood. Whatever the reason, Doc Ock has managed to be the source of much of Spidey's stress for the past few decades because of his devious intellect as well as his mentally manipulated tentacles. Strangely enough, Doc Ock is working with the police, however sketchy those certain law-enforcement officials may be. As logic dictates that Ock's bout of Samaritanism won't last long, expect to be on the receiving end of a tentacle-style assault at some point.

Venom

Venom

Real Name: Eddie Brock
First Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #300 (first full appearance)
Once upon a time, Spider-Man wore a cool black suit that was actually a symbiotic life-form from outer space. Throughout the course of his career, Spidey began to realize the being's true nature and decided to ditch it in favor of his traditional blue and red duds The symbiote, none to happy with this, has since been on a quest to avenge its humiliation. Venom is the result of the symbiote bonding with Eddie Brock, a reporter who hates Spidey for indirectly ruining his career. Driven by an intense hatred of Spider-Man, though guided by an odd moral code, Venom has proven to be one of Spidey's more troublesome enemies. Expect Venom to be quite a nuisance during the game, as his role seems rather large.

The Rhino

The Rhino

Real Name: Alex O'Hirn
First Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #41
Alex O'Hirn was a small-time thug who fell victim to an experiment intending to create a super-human assassin. The series of chemical and radioactive treatments eventually turned him into The Rhino, a thick-skulled, vicious brute who's constantly threatening Spidey with bodily harm. Super strong, and with a nasty temper to boot, expect to be on the receiving end of his harsh horn on at least one occasion in the game.
