Spider-Man: Miles Morales Heads To PS5 This Holiday

Peter Parker's protégé steps up as New York's Spider-Man in the PS5 follow-up to 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man.

During Sony's June 11 PlayStation 5 event, the studio revealed Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales--which is a launch window title for the next-gen console. The game is coming to PS5 in Holiday 2020, the same period of time that the PlayStation 5 is scheduled to release.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the follow-up to 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man, a PS4-exclusive starring Peter Parker as the titular web-slinger. So, I guess, spoiler alert if you didn't already know, but that 2018 game ends with Miles being bitten by a genetically-enhanced spider, gaining the same spider-based superpowers as Peter, and revealing this development to Peter. The follow-up three-part DLC expansion to Marvel's Spider-Man--titled The City That Never Sleeps--continued on this thread and showcased Peter taking on Miles as his protégé. The final moments of The City That Never Sleeps sees Peter teaching Miles how to web-sling for the first time.

Now Playing: Spider-Man: Miles Morales Announcement Trailer | Sony PS5 Reveal Event

Clearly, based on the new trailer for Spider-Man: Miles Morales (seen above), plenty of time has passed since that last DLC. Miles is fully decked out in his traditional black and red-colored Spider-Man outfit and is seen fighting criminals with all the grace of an experienced Spider-Man. He also displays his unique venom stinger superpower. A voice-over from Peter Parker informs Miles that he has to be like his father (who died in Marvel's Spider-Man) and step up as a hero for New York City.

Despite some initial confusion around whether or not the game was an expansion of the original game, Insomniac officially clarified that Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a standalone game. However, we still don't know the scope of the project and whether it's on par with a sequel or something like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy or Infamous: First Light.

In response to the confusion around the initial announcement, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan told CNET, "I can safely say that we would not effectively lead the next-gen portion of the show with something that was either trivial or misleading." That would seem to suggest this is not a bite-sized game, although the specifics remain unknown.

Marvel's Spider-Man is one of GameSpot's top 10 games of 2018--the game does an excellent job capturing the acrobatic nature of Spidey, combing traversal and combat mechanics together so that the player can fairly seamlessly transition between the two.

How sony has handled these spiderman games needs to be the standard going forward. Was on the fence about which console to buy first this gen and it looks like PS5 has edged out the Xbox for me. Hopefully it still ends up being cheaper

Guys, Jason Schreier said this one is akin to what Uncharted did with Lost Legacy.

It's not Spider-Man 2.

@ragnarocking: which I think naughty dog confirmed that lost legacy was a standalone game as well when asked so everyone is still technically being honest. Now what would suck is if we got a bunch of recycled animations from the last game and the only change being a new story which I doubt is the case.

@ragnarocking: the curious bit here is that this is set in NY and probably will need to feature some new villains. villains that are "used" when spiderman 2 comes.

sure spiderman has a large, cool roster but when the first game had allstar team 1 and its pretty possible the next one will use the remaining e.g. mysterio, venom, carnage, green goblin, plus maybe sandman, lizard, chameleon and a couple of others it makes me wonder what does this game bring on the table?

arkham origins was cool but still its hailed as disappointment everywhere. basically slightly larger expansion that has joker, bane and a bunch of extras hanging around. this team really tries succeed where origins failed quite heavily? if thats the case then ill just want to know will we get spidermobile in sm2?

@wtersad: Black people don't say things like "I'm not white" before leaving a comment. Sad that this is how you get comfortable before leaving a racial remark about a character that's been around for over a decade. Now...don't you have a cousin to **** or something like that?

@Thuban_23: If that's your idea of "off-road," put your seat belt on because we'll be going off-road quite often ;D

Feel free to do what most "adults" do when they read a comment they don't like and ignore it, but being that you've taken the time to reply (yet again), I must have offended you with that incest comment (that wasn't even aimed at you to begin with lol).

I think people that screw their cousins are sick...just like white guys that pretend to be black just to post comments geared towards hatred. Does that also offend you?

Please feel free you give more of your time...

@wtersad: Miles Morales has been around for like 10 years now. I, also a white man, think this is awesome because Miles Morales’ Spiderman is different than other versions of Spiderman. If you don’t like it then you don’t have to play it. Just wait for Spiderman 2 with Peter.

@wtersad: Peter Parker died in Marvel's ULTIMATE universe. Actually I think he has returned - as per immortal Stan Lee's words, "everyone dies in Marvel universe, no one stays dead" - but then decided that Miles is worthy and retired to live with MJ as a normal guy.

Miles was created when Obama has won his first term. Marvel has figured that historic moment of first African-American president does inspire revisiting some of their major characters. Probably both political correctness and sound commercial decision.

@returnofthebrotha: but i guess to his point and narrative, Miles Morales existence in comics is purely because Marvel wanted a Black Spiderman. Brian Michael Bendis admited it, he vowed to continue to make black characters because his adopted daughter is black and he wants her to see many heroes that look like her
while thats an admirable passion, its still forcing diversity.

@alastor529: I think what people who feel this way most fear is that the world does not want another white male superhero and I don't think that's the case. Or that the roles that were originally filled by white men are switching to other races and genders. Waiting on them to have an asian Bruce banner for people to really lose it. Lol but it's all just unfounded nonsense. Hollywood and the entertainment genre in general is merely adjusting from the years of whitewashing that has you guys in your feelings in the first place.

@alastor529: how is it forcing diversity. There exists a plethora of individuals besides white men. Its not so much forcing anything as it is making comics more in line with reality. What youre saying is the norm is white men so why change that, however, to me that would be more "forced" now in 2020. Just imagine it. All new superhero ideas, all white men. I bet the next argument would be "well why are people looking at ethnicity" and "it shouldn't matter" but then that would take us back to why is it deemed as "forced" then. Either way, you got two feet and one mouth, neither have to be forced but you can gently place one in whenever you get free time

"Forcing diversity."

Never quite understood this. Thats like saying "he's forcing reality onto his stories."

For many forced just means "they exist in the story."

Also, in order to make something normal, it sort of has to be forced in the beginning. They had to literally FORCE a white school to take the first black student. They had to FORCE the police to accept a black policeman. They had to FORCE medical schools to take black students. They had to FORCE the country to end segregated bathrooms. I mean yeah...in the beginning it must be forced.

Then it's normal and you won't think of it as forced anymore.

@cejay0813: THAT is your problem - you talk about a Latin 'look,' yet i'll bet you a PS5 that you cannot describe this look, and if you try - you will described mixed-race peoples... People who look like Morales are from Spain before Germanic tribesmen or the Romans invaded...

@returnofthebrotha: just stop lmao. Every iteration of Morales in comics or otherwise has always been that of a young black male, even though in actuality he's of mixed race. So if you saw someone who looked like Miles out in the real world, without knowing anything about him, would identify him as Latin and not black? It's not my problem at all its a fact of life. I've seen Indian individuals with darker skin called black. Regardless of ethnicity, in America, that's how racism works. Call it a lived experience, unless you get different results from your mix.... do tell.

@alastor529: i would prefer creating original new characters but ultimately all characters are forcing something. when lee and the co created the original characters they were mostly thinking of small boys who were more into wild and exciting action than girls are.

though it sounds the next phase of mcu will be the ultimate testament to how things will go. just taking the avengers cast and turning them all female, except spiderman being miles morales. i would really would have liked to seen them take people like spiderwoman and elektra who arent exact counterparts. but we will see how the femalewash will work out

@cejay0813: i dont think that would be the same level. but sure there would still be plenty of negative comments. but thats kinda like how when you see people complain about a game, then devs change something, and then you see people complaining about the change. first reaction is to ask why do you always complain. but half of those new complaints come from different people than the original complaints.

there isnt a single youtube vid with 100% like rating.

But then it turned out girls were just as much into action and adventure as boys. These were assumptions made in creative stages and in advertising that don't hold true anymore.

I think there's a power to switching characters around when they were created during a time when white and male was all you could make if you didn't want to lose your job or get in trouble.

It was a forced illusion. Only white people are heroes, only white people are the main character. Blacks, Asian, Hispanics, are tokens, side characters, or they are only ever defined by their culture.

I hope one day we get a black bruce Wayne and Clark Kent. Because the least important thing about them was always their skin color.

@Bread_or_Decide: that depends if you see bruce wayne as a codename or a character. we people are varied and different but we all are what we are. i can kind of change my skin color but not really. same is for "the" bruce wayne

if skin color wouldnt matter then there wouldnt be outrage to one way or another. but it clearly does matter. atleast to a notable number of people. i can also straight say that its way easier relate to peter than miles. just like its easier to still relate to younger side characters than older side ones. doesnt mean i hate those other kind of experiences

i think the main problem is here how all these hundreda of white guys were made during the birth of modern popular culture. you can see the draw of someone like batman is way bigger than of some fourth-tier hero some people are creating nowadays. even if a new hero is good she or he often has so many similarities with superman, batman, hulk, spidey, wolverine, blade etc that its considered a ripoff. even the new white male characters are often cheap knockoffs even if its unintentional
