Splatterhouse gets move-in date

Oft-delayed Namco Bandai action horror game goes gold, set for Xbox 360 and PS3 release on November 23; original game headed to mobile phones.

While Namco Bandai will be unable to meet its Halloween launch window for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 action horror game Splatterhouse, it won't miss the mark by much. Today, the publisher announced that Splatterhouse has completed development and will hit the market November 23.

An update of the original gross-out arcade beat-'em-up released in 1988, Splatterhouse features a mix of platforming, puzzle-solving, and brutal combat, all set to an original storyline by comic-book scribe Gordon Rennie (Judge Dredd, Necronauts). Players assume the role of a college student in search of his kidnapped girlfriend and subsequently happen upon a mask that confers great power--and an insatiable bloodlust.

The series reprise will also feature the original Splatterhouse trilogy of games as an unlockable bonus. Gamers interested in simply checking out the original Splatterhouse can either download the TurboGrafx-16 version from the Wii Shop Channel or look forward to a mobile version of the title set for release on a variety of platforms--including the iPhone and Windows Mobile phones--around the same time as the console game.

The game was originally announced as being in development at BottleRocket Entertainment in May 2008, but Namco Bandai abruptly pulled the studio off the project in February 2009. After a brief dispute between the two companies, Variety reported that Namco Bandai had picked up a number of ex-BottleRocketeers to finish the project.

@MJ12-Conspiracy Well, I don't think we can really compare those two games. Fallout is a solid game in which story has a important role. Splatterhosue is made to appeal the old followers of the original game, and of course you have to keep the same story and all that. About the violence in the game, you know, I has to make a diference. Back there the game was scary (i was 12 when the game was released in Spain), you won´t scare anybody now with that concept so, you know, they do a turn for violence and brawling. I understand your point dude, but I think that genres must be separated; brawlers like Splatterhouse must have a solid combat as priority, open world RPG´s like Fallout need a good story. To each genre its own. I never aproached Splatterhouse seeking a great story, that would be out of place imo. But of course, wait for the reviews, at the end is up to each ones preference. Nice conversation we havin' lol, you also reminded me I should get Fallout NV anytime soon

@Warlord_Irochi My thing is Splatterhouse, the original games came out at a time when Mario was still the undisputed king, when everyone owned a NES and Genesis was still barely worth mentioning. for me it was one of the games that sold the Genesis. It was violent, bloody and downright nasty and I loved it for that but I was what 16 at the time lol now I'm in my 30's and all I see is violence for the sake of violence I need a little more than oh your GF was kidnapped, here is a mask to make you stronger.... In Fallout New Vegas you get shot in the head and your trying to figure out why but along the way you get caught up in a larger conflict and it's you who the player who decides the outcome. The Story in New Vegas isn't anything like the one in Fallout 3 but it has it's moments and it still has reasons for why people keep playing.

@MJ12-Conspiracy Nothing against a opinion dude, but you know... Borderlands looked like MW2 cannon-fodder at the begining, so you never know until it actually hits the street. So belive me, the game is going to be ok, it has details that keep it away from being something like "X-Blades" :). Played when I did some Loca testing for it. It is not God of War, but it's far from being a bad game :)

@Warlord_Irochi You know what, I like brawlers as much as the next guy and I like it when older games come back and revisit old territory in new ways but Splatterhouse looks shallow, everything I've seen leads me to believe that it will faceplant. I'm not just going to reverse myself and say oh yeah, I love it it rocks just because everyone else thinks it is great. I think it looks terrible and I'm saying as much. it's an opinion, deal with it. Oh, and when did you play it? it's not out until Nov 23'rd.....

@MJ12-Conspiracy Lovely when people speaks about a game they have not played. There are already a few checks at it, generally positive, in websites like "screwattack". Splatterhouse is a really correct Brawler, hyperloaded with gore and with a nice variety of skills a movements to unlock. It changed to 3D and has nothing to do with the classic games in its mechanic, but keeps the spirit alive. (oh, and yes, already played it)

Eh, It's going to suck, it looks shallow and dull. Maybe this grave was better left untouched. Sometimes you have to respect the dead and not try to revive the dead ya know.....
