Square Enix Demos Final Fantasy XV on the Xbox One
Impressions from Microsoft's E3 2016 video demo
At Microsoft’s 2016 E3 press conference, Square Enix debuted the first ever demo of Final Fantasy XV running on the Xbox One. The demo showed off a game play section called “Trial of Titan.” In the live demo, we see the developer fighting against a gigantic titan. While it looked like the game was being played from a single protagonist’s perspective, there were other characters fighting the titan as well. Square Enix mentioned that the Trail of Titan level featured a three-way battle with another faction joining the action.
Speaking of action, the game looks to have a much more action-oriented combat system. It looks perhaps more like Kingdom Hearts than traditional Final Fantasy RPGs of yesteryear. Noticing the action, we see the protagonist hack and slash at the rocky giant’s hands. The character can also do a dash move that teleports him a short distance across the landscape. In the live demo, we see the titan fighting back by punching the various characters on screen. As he swipes at the characters, he destroys the landscape around him and we see rocks crumble and dust rise from the environment. Throughout the demo, it also looks like there are tidbits of QTE action.
Once the battle concludes, a cinematic occurs and we see the Titan defeated and frozen. You’ll be able to get your hands on Final Fantasy XV on September 30, 2016.
