Square Enix, Eidos collaborating on new project

Whatever they are working on I hope its great. By the way Uncharted 2 is the new tomb raider. If they want to revitalize the series then they have a very long and hard road to catch up.

@Stucazzo Really good call, people (myself included) often forget that Enix had some great gaming moments, and Actraiser was phenomenal and incredibly original (I also like Illusion of Gaia). A new iteration or remake of Actraiser with the newer console tech would allow it to reach its full potential and could be a truly amazing thing indeed.

Square is an amazing company but it will be very weird seeing there name on Hitman games. it almost scares me that they are collaborating in the first place.

New Legacy of Kain with a Square-Enix budget? ...no? ...please? ...just tossin it out there...

Unlike companies like Atari, for example, which is currently about 10 times removed from the original, actual Atari, at least Eidos remains intact with its original roster of studios like IO Interactive (Hitman, etc.) and Crystal Dynamics. The 'new' studio in Montreal doing DX3 and Thief 4 is comprised of creme de la creme ex-Ubisoft producers and artists. When you have big bucks Square Enix backing one's franchise Eidos projects, with a forward-looking new IP to boot, the forecast is hopeful.

@HerbalVideogame: Capcom merging with Square would be like one of the best things ever but that will never happen.

Square Enix is a beast, but I hope they don't keep buying too many other companies. I think it was a mistake for them to by Green Gas games, but whatev.

I'd like to see SE and Capcom merge, THAT would be sweet.

tetsuya nomura has complete and utter control over Kingdom Hearts series and Versus XIII, he puts what he wants in the game. why do you think Versus XIII is going to be the revolutionizing game in the FF series?

The two companies could likely make a great hybrid of a game together. Square Enix is great at developing intense story, and they can really set an atmosphere for a story, but they don't seem to perfect the battle systems like they used to. (I really liked how in the past the turn-based idea was varied to fit a strategic pursuit.) Eidos, while good with story and atmosphere, is undeniably even better with core gameplay. Er, in my opinion at the very least. (I suppose that as long as we know nothing of the project, we can't be too sure as to which aspects will excel. But I am still excited.) This means though, Square, you have to work hard on completing the many projects you are currently working on!

I don't suppose it would be too much to ask to see Laura Croft or Hitman make appearances in KH3? No, probably not, not if Disney has anything to say about it. But wouldn't it be cool to see a CG Dues Ex movie from Square? I heard that there might be another Hitman movie. The first one was awesome, so as long as it keeps in line with the first one, it should be fine, if it ever gets made.

Lara Croft can go ahead and retire seeing how Nathan Drake owns.

I'll believe it when I see it. And even more so that any of these will be coming to PC and that they'll be anything other than shooters with, at best, light RPG elements! :(

@jeffv541 seriously? Glitchy no. not a refined smooth first person shooter yes DX1 is probably top 10 game of all time territory. DX2, not so much. Whatever they create should be good

I don't care what they do with Eido's properties, I just want Chrono Break, a new Parasite Eve (on a console, NOT ON THE PSP OR DS!!!!!!!), and Kingdom Hearts 3. And it's time they give some love to rest of the Final Fantasy games, like they did for FF7. I would love to see some of the older games get movies, and it's high time they get around to remakes of 7, 8 and 9 instead of re-re-re-releasing and remaking 1-6. Don't get me wrong, I loved the DS versions of 3 and 4, but I've played them a dozen times across a dozen different platforms! Remakes of 7, 8, and 9 are what people want, and they just don't get it!!!!! Come on Squenix!!! What gives?!?!?!

Hm...what if you cross Tomb Raider with Final Fantasy? A game where you hunt treasure with RPG elements. Each treasure you find is like an accessory. Hm...that could work...as long as they don't call it Tomb Fantasy, Final Raider, Raider Fantasy, or Final Tomb or something.

i've never played deus ex but i heard alot about it can some1 give me info on what platforms i can find the OG games.im really looking forward to thief 4.i only played deadly shadows but that was a great game very diffrent from your standard shooter or fantasy games.

@Zerobeam Don't forget FFVIII spin-offs and various releases of Kingdom Hearts! I agree, something fresh would be nice.

I'd just love to see a new IP come from Squeenix, even a collabo with Eidos. Something outside of the Final Fantasies and Tomb Raiders...

If it's good, great. If it sucks, oh well. I don't see how a simple announcement that "hey, we're making a game!!!" is supposed to catch my interest. Then again, Square-Enix really has been botching a lot of things lately, so I shouldn't be surprised.

I'll be happy if either one at least makes an attempt to stick to the original templates.

as far as mechanics go, Deus Ex 1&2 were a total flop. They are among the glitchiest games I've ever played. They are poopoo.

@biggest_loser It does seem like Uncharted initially borrowed the Tomb Raider formula, only to completely rewrite and nearly perfect it! Eidos... or Square [something or other] do have to play catch up. As for Deus Ex 3, I wouldn't mind seeing a next-gen genre-bending, first-person action/adventure game.

i have sources within squeenix that tell me this game's main character will be Zidane.

Wow... it's going to take a while for me to get used to seeing "Square Enix" in the bottom right corner of Tomb Raider and Hitman...

As much as I love Thief the third game really wrapped that series up. I hope they're not clutching at straws for past greatness. Without Spector on DX3 its risky too. Be interested to see what they do with Tomb Raider after playing UC2 - they have a long, long way to catch up...
