Stalker Trilogy Announced, Out Today For $40

Here's a nice surprise--the Legends of the Zone trilogy is out now.

The Xbox Partner Preview broadcast contained a special surprise, as Microsoft announced the Stalker: Legends of the Zone Trilogy, and it's out today on console for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. This was leaked earlier this week for PlayStation as well.

The bundle includes the Stalker games Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat. The games are available in a package for $40 or individually for $20 each. Obviously, if you want all three, buying the bundle is the way to go in terms of cost.

Now Playing: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Legends of the Zone Trilogy - Launch Trailer | Xbox Partner Preview

"Every element from the original games has been maintained and faithfully ported to console thanks to the hard work of GSC Game World and their partners at Mataboo," Microsoft said.

The games are native to Xbox One but can also play on Xbox Series X|S through backwards compatibility. A patch is coming later this year for Xbox Series X|S that will introduce "additional graphical enhancements and other features." Also coming in the future is mod support.

GSC Game World's Zakhar Bocharov told Microsoft that the studio's top priorities with the bundle was to adapt the PC games for consoles in a way that felt good and natural. "We created everything from scratch, ensuring that the game was both easy to control and comfortable to play," Bocharov said.

The console versions now have a "weapon selection wheel" to updated aiming to support controllers. "This has been a project a long time in the making, so there has been significant care and attention to detail to ensure this classic PC game can be enjoyed for a whole new console audience," Microsoft said.

The next entry in the main series, Heart of Chornobyl, releases September 5, 2024 on Game Pass and other platforms.

I hope console gamers can appreciate this game. It is hardcore, and keyboard is not that essential on it like in, for example, GTFO or micromanaging quick in your strategy games.

Pity there's no update for them on the PC.

@naryanrobinson: I totally agree. I HIGHLY doubt that the bugs that are STILL in the pc versions is in the console versions. I do love a modded version of any of the Stalker games but I'd love to go back in to vanilla mode and just have it amazing, look like a 2024 game and just go to town. It's a shame though that the Xbox community will never know the likes of MISERY or Lost Alpha. Good times. May have to dl and play em all again now. Sigh...

@naryanrobinson: Considering how dedicated the modding base has been for this trilogy the last decade, nothing they add can scratch what modders have done. I understand lots of people don't like fiddling with mods, but you're seriously missing out if you don't mod these games. From basic stuff all the way to anomaly and gamma, this trilogy becomes it's own modern AAA gaming experience with them.

@doubtless1: I don't usually like lots of mods, but for Stalker I did really appreciate modders taking the time to fix up GSC's messes. Mods that just made the game work better were almost essential back when these came out. For ShoC and Clear Sky, anyway.

@mogan: Yea definitely and if you're feeling adventurous enough after getting your moneys worth from the base games, the overhauls and expansions are insane. I'd easily put Anomaly and Gamma up there with modern open world games today.

@doubtless1: I'm someone who (up to a point) is more interested in the developers' original vision than a superior game.

I don't like to be playing a game and not know which parts are actually supposed to be there and which aren't.
If I'm playing Skyrim for example, I want to know what's actually Skyrim and what's just some other thing. I'll install the SkyUI mod, for example, because the original UI is painful, and I know exactly what I'm missing. I know I'm playing the same game as everyone else.

For a mod like Brutal Doom I don't mind, because I just take it and the original Doom as two separate games, and play them both.
But you don't really want to be playing through two versions of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or Skyrim at the same time, because it's all one big level. Not an unlimited number of completely separate 20 minute experiences.
Maybe if I've already put hundreds of hours in, relatively recently, and I know how everything is supposed to be, but I haven't.

The only mod I'd install on top of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (and I want to) is a pure and comprehensive bug fix mod. No changes at all. And I looked, but for some reason couldn't find one. I assume one must exist. Do you know of one?

@naryanrobinson: I get the not wanting to mod something you're not familiar with and it's a fair point, I want to experience a game as intended first as well. I don't really disagree, but I will point out that some of your points are contradictory since there's plenty of mods that are only visual enhancements or general patches. There's standalone/expansions/complete overhauls for each entry as well as of course anomaly/gamma that combine all 3 into something more. I'd argue it's no different than your Skyrim or Doom examples, especially since the enhancements mentioned here are done by 3rd party devs and not the original vision, hell the ports may be garbage despite the usual PR "we kept it as faithful as blah blah blah." But hey that's all needless semantics right?

I can't remember off the top of my head, but check moddb for patches, fixes and enhancements. You may need to go over a few since over the years they've kind of rolled a lot of packs into 1 overhaul, may even have to get a modpack and only enable a handful.

@gameboy8877: Oh you mean when this bundle is released on console.
There's nothing to say anything on PC is going to happen with the first three games.
But then again, nothing to say it won't.

@naryanrobinson: it’s already on console, but when they add additional features they’d probably make PC updates to add them there as well
