Star Trek Discovery Show Announced for 2017

A new show from the Star Trek universe was announced today during the Star Trek 50 panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Star Trek Discovery will air on January 2017 exclusively on CBS, with episodes to be made available on CBS All Access afterward. As confirmed in an official Tweet from the Star Trek account, the show will feature the U.S.S. Discovery ship, designation NCC-1031.
A short video was also released, featuring a look at the U.S.S. Discovery that will be central to the upcoming show. You can watch it in the embed above. The ship resembles a traditional Federation ship saucer section, on top of a Romulan Bird of Prey. Co-creator, writer, and executive producer Bryan Fuller spoke about the upcoming show during the panel, which was relayed via the following tweets:

The recently released Star Trek Beyond film was positively received in GameSpot’s review. Editor Edmond Tran praised the film’s use of humour, character interaction, and portrayal of the enemy race. A sequel to the movie has been confirmed, as well as an appearance from Chris Hemsworth’s character George Kirk.
