Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Starts Production, New Cast Members Announced
Anton Pike, Ethan Peck, and Rebecca Romijn return to the USS Enterprise for the next Star Trek show.
Star Trek Strange New Worlds has started production. The next Star Trek show will star Anton Pike as Captain Christopher Pike, Ethan Peck as Spock, and Rebecca Romijn as Number One.
The start of production was announced in a video released by Paramount+. The video also reveals some of the additional stars that will be joining Pike, Peck, and Romijn--Babs Olusanmokun, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Jess Bush, and Melissa Navia. In the promo, the actors talk about how excited they are to be making the show in Toronto--check it out below:
No further details have been revealed about the characters played by the new cast members, but it's safe to assume they will be members of the Enterprise crew. Strange New Worlds will focus on the years that Pike manned the iconic starship, before Captain James Kirk took over command.
Mount, Peck, and Romijn previously played their characters in Star Trek Discovery Season 2. Mount's portrayal of Pike was met with such acclaim amongst fans that it resulted in a petition for a spin-off show. In May 2020, CBS announced that Strange New Works was happening.
Further details about the series were revealed during last year's Star Trek Day. Executive producer Henry Alonso Myers stated that, "We're gonna tell big ideas, science fiction adventures, in an episodic mode, so we have room to kind of meet new aliens, see new ships, visit new cultures." While the series will be more episodic than other Star Trek shows such as Discovery and Picard, it will still continue to develop characters across the series.
Strange New Worlds will release on Paramount+, although a premiere date hasn't been announced yet. Paramount+ is ViacomCBS's rebranding of CBS All-Access, and it officially launched last week.
