Star Wars 7 Hits $1 Billion Faster Than Any Movie in History

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has set another record. The movie's second weekend numbers are in, and the sci-fi blockbuster has now generated an estimated $1.09 billion at the worldwide box office. That feat was achieved after just 12 days in theaters, crossing $1 billion faster than any movie in history.

These numbers and analysis come from Entertainment Weekly.

The Force Awakens made $153.5 million at the US box office this weekend, which was good for the biggest domestic second weekend of all time. The previous record was $106.6 from Jurassic World earlier this year.

In the US, The Force Awakens has now made $545 million. It made $500 million domestically in 10 days, beating Jurassic World, which needed 17 days to reach that mark.

The Force Awakens is now showing in theaters across all major regions of the world, except China. It opens there on January 9. As EW points out, The Force Awakens' numbers are even more impressive when you consider that Jurassic World opened in June in all major worldwide regions, including China.
