Star Wars Actor Oscar Isaac Wants To Play Snake In The Metal Gear Solid Movie

The Star Wars actor wants to join the film.

A Metal Gear Solid movie from Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts is in the works, but basically nothing is known about the cast or story at this stage. It's still early days for the film, but now one big-name actor has come forward to say he wants to star in it.

Oscar Isaac, who is known for portraying the pilot Poe Dameron in the new Star Wars movies, told IGN that he wants to play Snake in the upcoming film. "I'm throwing my hat in for that one," he said. Isaac also talked about why he thinks video game movies have struggled in the past.

Now Playing: At E3, God Of War And The Metal Gear Movie's Directors Sat Down For A Chat

"With the video game thing, I think the trick will be how do you replicate the feeling of what it feels like to play a video game. I think where it goes wrong often is with the plots," he said.

Vogt-Roberts responded to Isaac's comments on Twitter where he said casting for the Metal Gear movie hasn't started yet. He did, however, commend artist Boss Logic's mock-up of what Isaac might look like as Snake--check out the image below.

The Metal Gear movie has been in the works for a long time. Vogt-Roberts teased the film's script in 2018, saying it will blow your mind in a way that many things associated with series creator Hideo Kojima do. "We just turned in the script, and I think it's one of the best scripts I've ever read," he said. "It's one of the coolest, weirdest, most Kojima things. If I wasn't involved in it, I would still look at that script and [say], 'Holy sh**.'"

Jurassic World and Star Wars: Episode IX writer Derek Connolly was announced (via Variety) as the writer for the Metal Gear movie in November 2017. He and Vogt-Roberts have a history together, as Connolly co-wrote Kong: Skull Island, which Vogt-Roberts directed.

The Metal Gear video game franchise celebrated its 31st anniversary in 2018. The latest entry in the series was the poorly received Metal Gear Survive. Kojima no longer works at Konami, but instead starting his own studio that's working on Death Stranding now.

Dang! I always thought Oscar Isaac was cool. But, MGS level cool?! Hats off to my dude.

I wished there was an actor that looked like the combination of Clint Eastwood and Van Dam that Shinkawa depicted Snake to be.

But, that actor would probably not be as good as Oscar Isaac in, you know, acting.

As for Vogt-Roberts, I wonder how many scripts he has actually "read"...

I like Oscar Isaac, but a MGS movie would suck, hell it's barely intelligible as a 25 hours game, 10 of these hours being cutscenes, 10 being codec calls explaining the story and the rest some gameplay here and there.

@RogerioFM: A TV series would work better. Give it the Castlevania treatment.

Back in the day i always visioned a metal gear movie and Kurt Russell being Snake.

Now I’m not so sure who it should be i do however know Oscar Issac is poor choice he’s not Snake he doesn’t fit the character and definitely will not sound like Snake.

Maybe if they did do a version for Kurt Russell where he could be like big boss that still would be good just have to consider Kurts age but Kurt can’t be Snake he’s to old. Younger actors i have no idea who should play Snake

@poemann79:

Kurt Russell and Snake from Esacpe from movies, are what "snake" was based up so of coarse we could all image that, sadly Kurt is to old for this now. unless they do movie based on the old snake about to die . either way I dont want movie done based on this, anymore then I want to see "series" based off of the witcher

Just to many movies made from game and or anime that turn out to so shitty its insult to the original material

@tsunami2311: DuH........ the point is that it been cool had Kurt Russell been officially part of the MGS franchise. The characters though both shared the same name were in no way the same universe or franchise that is common sense if you want to make sense of things.

My point literally being Kurt Russell was not ever a part of the MGS franchise it would’ve been badass had they used him and if a live action movie could’ve happened back then in his younger days Kurt Russell would’ve been the person to do the part.

@Slayer70: Except he looks the part, is a great actor, and has done military films so he's already fit that role before. But sure yeah, not even close.

When it comes to casting, talent comes first, the rest is movie magic. They had the same complaints about Hugh Jackman in the first xmen movie. Too tall, not enough muscles, blah blah blah geeks know nothing about casting and acting.

Issac was great in Ex Machina! But I cannot see him as Snake.

From memory, wasn’t Christian Bale also interested at some point?

I think they should scrap the entire film and make another game instead!

Clint Eastwood in his prime would have been amazing....so maybe Scott Eastwood?

The could even cast Clint Eastwood as an old Big Boss

Mads Mikkelsen would be my choice but he would have to buff up a bit which is difficult at that age

Give up on the live action movies already. Just get Naughty Dog's animation studios to animate a movie and bring on David Hayter to voice (like they should have done with the Uncharted movies).

Big head after doing some "Star Wars" eh?

Not sure any makeup artist could make him resemble Snake...

I’d say go with Josh Brolin but choosing him for gritty, masculine roles is almost a cliché at this point...

...still I think he’d be a better choice that Oscar at least.

@justthetip: People really have no vision. Actors act, they don't have to have done something similar before to prove they can handle a certain character.

He's pretty spot on for Snake, if you want a good actor in the role that is.
