Star Wars Battlefront 2 Coming Fall 2017, EA Suggests

"We're working very hard on making sure that is an extremely deep and engaging offering."

The previously announced Star Wars Battlefront 2 will come out during fall 2017, Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen strongly suggested during an earnings call today.

He said it's coming "a year from now," according to Polygon. He added, "We're working very hard on making sure that is an extremely deep and engaging offering."

No Caption Provided

The game will have "bigger and better worlds," Jorgensen said during a previous call. He added that it will make use of content from "the new movies," though he didn't name any outright. The first Battlefront only featured content from the original Star Wars trilogy.

EA plans to release one new Star Wars game every year for the next three to four years.

That EA is making a Battlefront sequel is no surprise. The first game has shipped 14 million copies, which was ahead of the company's expectations for the shooter.

DICE is developing Star Wars Battlefront 2 alongside another EA developer, Motive Studios.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is not the only Star Wars project currently in the works at EA. Titanfall developer Respawn is making a third-person action adventure game, while Dead Space studio is making a Star Wars game, too, under the leadership of Uncharted director Amy Hennig.

Well this is disappointing. When Ubisoft decided to release an Assassin's Creed game every year for a few years in a row, they released games full of bugs and glitches that needed a lot of patching. They learned from that and are not doing that again.

This reboot of BF was awful. It looked great and that was it. The game is shallow and has had issues with hacking, balancing, match making and was over priced. It should of been $40 CAD on release for the Ultimate Edition as it is now. If they are going to be releasing games that fast they are only going to get worse. EA's support is terrible and they care little for their customers. Unfortunately, even if millions don't buy their games again, there is enough millions that will so they don't care. I requested a refund after 12 hours of playing this a year ago. I didn't have time to get into it when I first got it around the holidays, but because it was past a week since it was purchased, they said nope and promised they were working to make it better blah blah... A year latter this game still sucks. I only have time to play late at night and I encounter hackers to often to be bothered with this game. If I worked for Lucas Film I wouldn't be providing licensing to companies like EA.

I was an idiot who bought the season pass. Why couldn't they work hard to create real value for that and ps4 pro patch would be nice?

Zzz. EA and Dice are capable of making games that are exactly as pretty as they are boring. That sounds about as exciting as sudying for an art history test.

man..this development schedule just continues to take a dump on all the Bad company fans waiting for BF BC3...and for what? The world's most shallow game in Battlefront 1? or the new BF1 that has more camping than ever and less vehicles than ever?

man...what love me some haggard and the boys..but sadly, I think this ship has sailed at this point on ever getting another instalment of that series.

Need to have a offline mode with the option to have AI bots. Class system need to come back it seems it does work better with battlefield games. More maps variety "Not the same maps ,but smaller and with different game modes!! Those don't count!!" No random vehicle pick up spawns. Have more then 2 factions"Not as DLC!!!" love to see a battle Empire Vs the New Order!

This is just the basis of the game you need to have some creativity for the rest of the game to match previews battlefronts.

well here we go again if they pull the BS price point again than don't bother. They don't have the offer the value if they can't even put a single player game. EA is a money hog with no consumer point of view in mind. taking advantage is not cool for anyone.

Not trying to be hipster or anything but i get confused when they talk about first Battlefront. Do they mean THE first one released over 10 years ago or the latest one.

I'm not too familiar with Motive Studios or the extent of their involvement, but I just hope DICE takes more inspiration from their Battlefield series as their developing Battlefront 2. Battlefront is amazing, but Battlefield 1 has pretty much all the gameplay mechanics and features Battlefront needed for the deep, intuitive gameplay and the kind of robust features fans want. Battlefield 1 is a hell of a game.

The big concern is the development time frame. Battlefront 2 doesn't seem to be getting much more time for development than DICE's first game, and that leaves the question of just how much content will the sequel have? EA, LFL and Disney better prepare themselves for the livid backlash they'll most certainly get from the fans if they choose to ignore PT/TCW era content. Again. I want a Battlefront game that spans the ENTIRE saga. :/

We need a serious single player campaign, remember Republic Commando? That was a very fun campaign, albiet a little short. We also need a proper sequel for the Rogue Squadron franchise, and lastly, KOTOR3 no more SWTOR gimmicks.

I would love it if they did 3 major single player storylines in the form of the war stories in BF1. One for each major period of the franchise. One story taking place in the clone wars, one story taking place against the empire and one story taking place during the new sequels. But they should also be a lot longer with at least 8-10 missions instead of the terribly short campaigns in BF1 that only have 2-4 missions.

Then the MP has to have maps from all the movies, prequels, original series and the new sequels, bring back faction specific weapons so that there is some variation to each faction and specific weapon unlocks for each faction. Vehicles should not be spawned in, they should be stationary objects one can run up to and enter.

If these things are added in the next Battlefront I will consider buying it. But seeing how little content the new Battlefield 1 has, I highly doubt it.

@merwanor: I would love that but it is unlikely we will get all 3 eras. At least I hope the campaign will have us play at least 2 factions. I don't like how Battlefront tried to paint all of the Empire as villains. I want a story of a stormtrooper struggling in a war he didn't want to fight as well as a rebel one. Kyle Katarn in the old games (now legends) used to be a stormtrooper. Even SWTOR let you play as good Imperials.

If they do a Titanfall and don't put gameplay and maps behind overpriced premium DLC I might be interested - however that seems very unlikely with DICE/EA

@sellingthings: I wouldn't expect the sequel to break the mold in anyway. The 'reboot'(?) BF made bank and I don't see why they would allocate resources to make something as complex as what you say to attract new fans. I would imagine some new modes are in order. I wouldn't even expect a campaign, though I desperately wanted the game to have one.

@sellingthings: according to an IGN article: ''EA's Star Wars Battlefront has sold 12 million copies since its release in November.'' and generated close to 660 million in earnings, before DLC and add ons.

The game dropping in price was more than likely due to EA wanting to reach fence sitters and potentially sell more DLC.

ugh, no. NO. no no no no NO.

Battlefront was the most underwhelming games in recent memory. Arguably one of my least favorite games in recent years. Outside of it's awesome production values (it's visuals and sound were outstanding), it had no redeeming qualities. At all. After the initial shock of "OMG I'm on Endor!" wore off, I could not bothered to play it for more than 10 minutes at a time. After that got old, it was actually sleep inducing to play it.

Just...find some talented, small, passionate studio, give them the license and three years, and let them make a really good singleplayer game. It's time to start making singleplayer games. They don't have to be particularly long; if anything, the surge of indie developers releasing 20-dollar, five-to-ten-hour long games of high-quality fun is evidence of this.

Star Wars is all about epic adventure, not lackluster online fun. Battlefront sucks now, and besides, we have Battlefield and Titanfall now (and Call of Duty).

I know the whole "make online shooter release standard/deluxe edition/season pass/extras" thing makes assloads of cash, but so does the whole inexpensive singleplayer thing; shorter development, no netcode, less support, no server farms, and so forth.

If it does a Titanfall 2 and includes a good campaign, I might actually consider purchasing it. As it is now, the old Jedi Knight games or even The Force Unleashed games are better options.

@muppetbabymastr: Despite the bad porting, I had a lot of fun with both TFU games. I think they're much better than what the reviewers and most people say. They even do some things better than Jedi Knight, but are ultimately inferior to those games.

@facts23: Hopefully Devs add some form of good quality VR to even a small slice of gaming in all their games, to eventually adding a control scheme that works in VR for the whole game, if the market allows it. I would even pay a little extra for VR access if the install base isn't big enough to justify the code without it.
