Star Wars: Battlefront 2's Campaign Is Set Up In A New Novel
Rogue One sequel will set up Battlefront 2 story.
The upcoming Star Wars book Inferno Squad will take place right after the events of Rogue One and will also serve as a prequel to Electronic Arts' much-anticipated Star Wars: Battlefront II.
At Star Wars Celebration, EA announced fantasy and sci-fi author Christie Golden's book will tell the story of Inferno Squad, an elite team of Imperial soldiers.
Inferno Squad and its commander Iden Versio are also the focus of Star Wars: Battlefront II's single-player campaign. As we saw in the full-length reveal trailer, she and her comrades seek to avenge the death of the Emperor following the destruction of the Death Star. While the video game takes place after the events of Return of the Jedi, the book takes place decades earlier, telling the story of how Inferno Squad came to be.
The book was first announced in February. "The Rebellion may have heroes like Jyn Erso and Luke Skywalker," the publisher's description read, "but the Empire has Inferno Squad." It goes on to describe the plot:
"After the humiliating theft of the Death Star plans and the resulting destruction of the battle station, the Empire is on the defensive. In response to this stunning defeat, the Imperial Navy has authorized the formation of an elite team of soldiers, known as Inferno Squad. Their mission: infiltrate and eliminate the remnants of Saw Gerrera’s Partisans. Following the death of their leader, the Partisans have carried on his extremist legacy, determined to thwart the Empire--no matter what the cost.
"As the danger intensifies and the threat of discovery grows, how far will Inferno Squad go to ensure the safety of the Empire?"
The book is scheduled to be released on July 25. Star Wars: Battlefront II comes out November 17 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. GameSpot will have full coverage of Star Wars: Battlefront II, including more details on the new book, as they come out.
