Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi Movie Timeline And Director Reportedly Revealed

It's been a weird week for Star Wars. With Solo coming out on Friday, May 25, there have been plenty rumors about the future of the franchise, and one of the early rumors may have some steam behind it: an Obi-Wan solo movie. And according to a synopsis, it will be a lot like a recent Marvel Star Wars comic.

Apparently, the Obi-Wan movie will not be an origin story. It will take place on Tatooine while Luke Skywalker is an infant, under the care of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru Lars, according to TMZ, which has access to production bulletins. The jedi master has become a hermit and secretly watches over Anakin Skywalker's son. However, a war between farmers and Sand People brings Kenobi out of hiding, defending the baby. Listed in the bulletin is Stephen Daldry (The Hours), attached as director. Additionally, there were rumors that the Obi-Wan movie was already in early stages of pre-production with Daldry attached as director, from Fantha Tracks, which backs TMZ's latest report.

The events in the movie are roughly 19 years prior to the events of A New Hope. The synopsis for the film mirrors the Marvel comic Star Wars #7 in many ways. In the issue, written by Jason Aaron with art by Simone Bianchi and Justin Ponsor, Obi-Wan secretly watches over Luke--who is a toddler. The former jedi has to come out of hiding when Jabba The Hutt's thugs threaten the Lars family, demanding they pay a water tax. When it was released in 2015, comic book fans proclaimed this was the Obi-Wan movie they wanted to see. Looks like they may get their wish.

In addition to the Obi-Wan news, recently, a mistranslated quote from Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy led many people to believe that Lando Calrissian would be the next standalone Star Wars movie. However, that isn't the case as Kennedy actually said she like to tell that story one day, but nothing was confirmed.

GameSpot has reached out to Disney about the Obi-Wan movie but they have no comment.

More than likely, if Lucasfilm confirms the Obi-Wan movie--which they have yet to do--it won't be until after Solo: A Star Wars Movie has had its run in theaters, so the production company can keep the spotlight on that. If you want to learn more about Solo, check out our review in the video above.
