Star Wars Outlaws Update Aims To Make Stealth Missions Less Frustrating

These new changes will help you feel like a phantom menace.

A new patch has gone live for Star Wars Outlaws, and the key takeaway from this update is that stealth missions should be less frustrating to play. Developer Massive Entertainment says that it has focused on improving stealth to give players more flexibility, and another welcome fix being introduced in the update is an improvement to speeder travel.

Stealth in Outlaws was fairly unforgiving when the game first launched, although this has been fine-tuned over the last couple of weeks. The new tweaks aim to reduce the frequency of instant-fail moments during specific missions, allowing players to have more options at their disposal to complete these sequences.

For speeder travel, the developer says it is "reducing collisions" with objects in the environment through this patch. A notorious bug in Outlaws, speeder travel could often result in Kay Vess experiencing low-orbit travel when she was flung from her vehicle while traveling on a seemingly safe route.

Massive says it also investigating other issues in the PC version of the game. "We are also aware of an ongoing issue affecting PC players after the 24H2 Windows Update," the studio wrote in the patch notes. "We are working hard to identify both the root cause and its resolution. This investigation is taking some time; therefore, the fix couldn't be ready for this Title Update. We'll deploy one as soon as it's ready and update all affected players."

Other gameplay fixes include improved NPC behavior, increased auto-save opportunities in open-world hostile areas, and "Wanted" difficulty will now scale according to player progression. You can see the full patch notes below, which cover various other technical parts of the game as well.

This is the third major update for Outlaws, following its launch in August. While the game was generally well-received, it was criticized for a heavy number of bugs and early instant-fail stealth missions. Ubisoft's stock took a huge hit after Star Wars Outlaws reportedly underperformed. and the company's next big open-world game, Assassin's Creed Shadows, was delayed to February 14, 2025.

After a year this will be a polished gem like GR: Breakpoint. And that’s when I’ll buy it…for $30.

The stealth sections is the least of the problems. For an open-world game, I didn't like I'm still restricted in certain areas were I'm unable to go/explore due to me still on a mission when I could take a simple detour but no, Ubisoft won't let me.

Most of the stealth missions weren't that overblown as Nix himself made the game easy to execute stealth attacks. Another thing I like about Star Wars: Outlaws is the space combat/dogfighting is way better than Starfield's space combat and that's saying something!

This was a much better game than people gave it credit for. I finished it and didn't have any issues with any of the stealth missions. It rewards patience of the Assassin's Creed variety and Nix seriously made it easier than most stealth games. With that said, I definitely didn't feel the need to hang around and cleanup unfinished missions after the main story line completed, sooo......

@marklodi: The problem with stealth missions is that they are only that--stealth. That's not fun. The gameplay trailer showed Kay "stealth" around until she was caught. At which point she proceeded to blast the hell out of everyone before jumping in her speeder bike and zooming away with them in pursuit. That's really cool. Instead, we got stupid instant-fails that made us repeat way too much.

Every "stealth" mission should have just been a goal with a playground on how to achieve it. Go in guns blazing, stealth, bribery, double-cross the people, or any combination. I don't want to be forced to be patient. I want options to live in my character's shoes.
