Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Title Is Plural - Report
But what does that mean?
When Lucasfilm announced the title of Star Wars: Episode VIII last month--The Last Jedi--one of the major questions that popped up was whether or not "Jedi" was to be taken as singular or plural. Now, it's apparently been confirmed that it's plural.
According to Slashfilm, international translations for the movie confirm that Jedi in the case of The Last Jedi is plural, so it's a reference to more than one Jedi. This sounds like a small detail, but it could offer some clues as to the story for The Last Jedi, like whether or not the Jedi's days are numbered.
Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is referred to as "the last Jedi" in the opening crawl to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Additionally, Yoda says to Luke on his deathbed in Return of the Jedi, "When gone am I, the last of the Jedi will you be." Now that we know Jedi is meant to be taken as plural, it seems that Luke is among the last group of Jedi and not necessarily the very last one. This is all very interesting when you consider that the connection between Luke and Rey (Daisy Ridley) is to be a major point of focus in The Last Jedi. Additionally, some new Last Jedi art released this week showed Rey wielding a lightsaber.
Here are a series of tweets that Slashfilm collected about The Last Jedi's pluralization.

They've translated "The Last Jedi" into Spanish as "Los Ultimos Jedi" using the plural. So that that as you will. #starwars

Earlier this week, Lucasfilm announced that The Last Jedi writer-director Rian Johnson and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy will share new details on the movie during a panel at Star Wars Celebration in April. In other news, Johnson shared a behind-the-scenes image from the movie showing a series of Stormtroopers.
The Last Jedi arrives in theaters on December 15, 2017. It also stars Laura Dern, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis. Carrie Fisher filmed her Leia scenes for the movie before she passed away in December.
