Star Wars Will Get Openly Gay Character, JJ Abrams Says

I'm getting bored with having homosexuality shoved down my throat (pun not entirely intended). Gay people weird me out but I know too many to think of homosexuality as being anything other than a perspective I just don't happen to share.

My problem here is less gay people than over exposure. Gay people make up about 3% of the adult population. They make up about 50% of the population of all bioware games.....

There are a heck of a lot more Asian people, Muslim People, and God knows more FAT people than gay people (allowing for some cross over).

So if we're inserting token minorities to be inclusive can we start with maybe a Hispanic?

This is just another ploy to push homosexuality on the general public. Leave my Star Wars alone!

I hope they do it in a manner similar to the mechanic from ME3. He was gay, you knew he was from dialog cues (and it fleshed out the character), but otherwise it was irrelevant... Which, unless you're focusing on the sexuality for a specific purpose, it should be in any case.

I just don't want it to be one of those cases where you spend every moment they appear in the movie thinking, "Okay, we get it, let's move along to other dimensions of the character now."

All this... "inclusiveness" is going to wind up being this generations drugs and "free love". In about 15 years, everyone is going to realize... oh... actually this was all pretty destructive.

I strongly suggest everyone read a book titled "After The Ball". It was written by two Gay men who proposed how to use slick Madison Avenue marketing techniques to change America's views on homosexuality.

Their numbers must have shown not many gay people saw the movie. This should help getting them more money!

I just got one question. What is the point of having a gay character in Star Wars? It's the film going to be more believable then? It's going to make Star Wars more tediously humane? Or is it because anyone thinks it's thinking forward and doing something no one has ever done before. Let me tell you something. Introducing a gay character it's been in done in everything else today. So there is no point to proof. I do believe there should be many more gay characters in other franchises and sagas, but why here. If the LGBT community or supporters wants to show equality, put that belief in the minds of youngsters to be more comprehensive, take down frontiers and proof a point, STAR WARS IS NOT THE PLACE. The LGBT community should be against this. The studio and producers are using this real thematic just to make more income out of homosexual people who are not fans. Why doesn't the gay community goes to explore the universe and fight for equality in "Star Trek". I bet they can fit right perfect there.

In my view, promoting education about worldviews alternative to mainstream society is good because we should learn about each other on a regular basis. Censoring either side when both are civil is not the answer because it negates the natural process of conflict that is seen in the world. Nothing is learned by humanity if nothing is risked.

Well, we already have a character desperately trying to land a baby momma in the 7th, while he is running for his life from the First Order. Kind of weird, and felt completely out of place. Maybe this gay character will be a love interest for Rey, and then Rey hooks up with a chick. DAMN, can you imagine that. Would that be box office suicide? Even if it is Star Wars?
