StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void Gets a Free Prologue and July Beta

Legacy of the Void will receive a few free missions before the expansion's release.

StarCraft II is getting another expansion, titled Legacy of the Void, at some unannounced point in the future. To hold players over, developer Blizzard is making a free prologue for it.

Called Whispers of Oblivion, this prologue will have three missions, including the first focusing on Zeratul since the Wings of Liberty expansion. According to the developer, Whispers of Oblivion is meant to bridge the story gap between the last expansion, called Heart of the Swarm, and the upcoming Legacy of the Void.

As a blog post explains, "In Whispers of Oblivion, players will join Zeratul for the first time since Wings of Liberty to unravel the final piece of the Xel'naga prophecy."

More details will be shared in July.

Additionally, Blizzard announced that the expansion is getting another beta test in July. Keep an eye on GameSpot for more news about the beta, the prologue, and the expansion as it becomes available.

Wow seriously?? Maybe what... 1 - 2 new units and a story line we all heard of before? I'm the proud owner of SC2 with no expansions so far. Teaching Blizzard to send a product to the consumers completely finished, not half-way and sell it as expansion packs. Remember back in the day when you could do all 3 campaigns and now they split it up? Sad... just sad...

It is totally absurd the amount of time this has taken to be released. I almost don't care anymore.

@jetpil0t_01: What's worse is they reused the story from Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos. Blizzard have really fallen off in their ability to make good stories.

@lostn: An good games in general. Back in 02, when I was busy loving Diablo 2, I thought it would be impossible for Blizzard to ever suck. They have proven me wrong beyond disbelief.

If you started sc2 as a teenager, you will be in you mid twenties when this finally comes out.

@lostn: If you played Half Life as a teenager....HL 3 would make a nice Christmas present from your grandson.

Hm. I wonder if this means that we're approaching an actual release date or if this means 'guys this is going to take even longer than expected so here's something to keep you interested'. Or maybe both. Nonetheless I look forward to it. I've been really happy with SC2 so far and I have faith they'll do a good conclusion.

@syntaxkt: It would be great to see warcraft 4 but I won't hold my breath waiting for it. They are still trying to keep World of Warcraft in the lime light. Give us Warcraft 4. I am ready for it.

I'm getting pretty hyped for the campaign and this little bridge campaign seems like a nice hype tool.

I'm so excited for Legacy of the Void. Will be sad to say goodbye to Starcraft characters. Man I love this series.
