StarCraft HD Remaster Reportedly in Development at Blizzard

A remastered version of the original StarCraft could be on the way, if a new report is accurate.

The game is currently in development at Blizzard and will be revealed in September, according to Korean site iNews24 (as translated by Kotaku). Citing multiple sources, it said the game features updated graphics and an improved user interface, but maintains the original gameplay.

It's unclear if that means no changes at all would be made to gameplay. We also don't know for sure if this would include both single-player and multiplayer or any content from the Brood War expansion.

As for the September announcement, this could indicate it will coincide with the conclusion of the StarCraft II World Championship Series, which ends in September.

We've contacted Blizzard for comment, but it's unlikely that it will address the matter at this point.

StarCraft was originally released in 1998, with the aforementioned Brood War expansion releasing later that year. It's regarded as one of the most influential and beloved real-time-strategy games ever, though that didn't stop Blizzard from taking more than a decade to release a sequel.
