Starfield Shattered Space Expansion Coming This Fall, Ship-Building Update Later This Week

More information on Starfield is coming soon.

Bethesda has revealed that the Shattered Space expansion for Starfield is coming in Fall 2024, and that updates to the game's ship-building mechanics are coming soon.

In an interview with Kinda Funny, Bethesda's Todd Howard said that more information about ship building is slated later this week. "This is a separate update. Shattered Space is in the fall, but we have a big update that's coming really soon for Starfield."

Howard also said that Starfield's Creation Kit has already been sent out to creators and more information should be revealed soon. While Howard couldn't announce a launch date for the full release, he assured that the Creation Kit was still an important priority.

Bethesda is still hard at work on Starfield, and its next primary developmental focus is on Elder Scrolls VI. While the TV adaption of Fallout on Amazon has been incredibly popular and well-received, Betheada has been coy about providing more details on Fallout 5.

Xbox will be having its big showcase in the summer, which is reportedly airing on June 9, and a new Gears of War announcement could end up being there.

I'm still a fan of Starfield. I wasn't looking for a Star Citizen (still not done) or Elite Dangerous experience. I got an updated Mass Effect in which I thought it would be. Mod community will pimp the game out and everyone will hop back on the bandwagon. Or not but

.. love the game.

Give Fallout to another studio. At the rate Bethesda is able to make games, these IPs are going to rot on the vine waiting for their next entry. Bethesda can spend the next five years or more building Elder Scroll 6 and making DLC for Starfield while another studio takes a crack at a new Fallout game. The last time they tried this it turned out the best game in the series yet!

@mogan: So it can become Call of Duty where we quickly become fatigued with the formula and complain how every game is the same because there is a new release every 1 or 2 years? The beauty of Skyrim and Fallout is the fact that it can be played and replayed for literal years. I bought Skyrim and Fallout 4 on day one and I still play both to this day and I don't feel an urgent need to play a new entry.

@just_visiting: I'm sure there are more options for getting a new Fallout game than waiting for over a decade for Bethesda or annualizing the franchise. I doubt any studio could build RPGs the size of a Bethesda-style game fast enough for even bi-annual release.

I'd rather wait 5 years between Elders Scrolls games from Bethesda, and 5 years between Fallout games from somebody else. It's been 10 years since Fallout 4, and it's likely to be another 10 before we get a Fallout 5 if the IP stays where it is.

@mogan: They have developers that are highly capable. What about having iD or MachineGames create a Fallout game? We know they'll nail the FPS mechanics at least.

@sparent180: Would they be able to nail the roleplaying aspect of the games though? I wonder...

@sparent180: Either of those developers would be exciting. Or Arkane, or Obsidian. Microsoft has many fine options now.

@mogan: I agree, I would prefer to an id or machineg fallout game to a bethesda fallout game.

Dont get me wrong, fallout meant a lot to me and im forever grateful for todds work with it. But its been a while since they delivered. I would love to see an actual AAA game with a modern engine being used.
