State of Decay's new expansion revealed

Developer says expansion will offer 'a new way to play'.

More details on upcoming expansion for open-world zombie game State of Decay have been revealed by developer Undead Labs. An announcement on the official site revealed that the second expansion will be called State of Decay: Lifeline, and will offer "a new way to play" the game.

Additional details on the post were scarce, but fans were told to expect a new map. Undead Labs also confirmed that the expansion will launch simultaneously on PC and Xbox 360, although no release date was given.

Earlier this year, Undead Labs confirmed that it had signed a multi-year, multi-title agreement to extend its development relationship with Microsoft, leading to speculation of a possible State of Decay sequel. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's review.

Ok so is there some sort of petition that we can sign or something? I bought this game like the day it came out and I absolutely adore it. The only problem is that I was looking forward to multiplayer and after I heard it sold the necessary amount of copies to make a multiplayer I was absolutely thrilled. When the next update came out and there wasn't multiplayer I checked online only to find that it had been permanently shelved. Well why? This game has such great potential! I want to start something like a petition and send it to undead labs to show how badly people want this game to be multiplayer. After I beat my first play through I was so bored with it. If there was a sandbox multiplayer mode then I would crap my pants and redownload it, and it doesn;t even need to be multiplayer it could be like a 4-6 player co-op.

What did the last patch add? Are they patches or paid dlc? I haven't played this game in forever. Got it when it came out, fully upgraded my bases, and beat it. Haven't touched it since. I finished right after they released the first patch to fix a lot of bugs. But I remember that I didn't like that none of the resources ever respawned. So after I already collected everything there wasn't much left to do.

they wont release co-op because it will take away players from all their high profit games like laggy cod, heaven forbid it had a competitor. Multiplayer was probably made and quickly bought out by micro$oft, and was confirmed it 'could never be done, its too hard" what ever, liers, cheats, greedy punks, multplayer on this would of been amazing.

<< LINK REMOVED >> That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Having coop wouldn't make any difference to people playing CoD. It's not like people can't play more than one game at a time ya know.

I agree that this game just screams coop, but to suggest that Microsoft is somehow conspiring against it behind the scenes is just nutts. They want to give people MORE reasons to buy & play their games, not less. Plus, this is a small developer. It may be more of an undertaking than they can handle right now.

I'm a fan of zombie games. I heard a lot of positive things about this one, so when it came out on Steam I picked it up.

I just couldn't get into this one. It was a disappointment for me. Graphics were too Nintendoee and I hated logging off and logging back in only to find that the supplies I picked up were gone.

I realize that they were going for a real time world that went on even after you logged off, but I would have preferred a real time world that paused when you logged off.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I followed the game for a long time before launch and was really interested, but after awhile I could see it wasn't going to be what I wanted. For me it turned out to really be mostly a typical third person action game. The survival elements and base management are just kind of on the side, but the core of the game is that expected action style.

Still I commend them on finding the balance that won over a large number of gamers. They straddled the line a bit towards hardcore survival, but stayed enough on the traditional action arcade-y side to make it successful.

A new map is everything we could've asked for, thought I'd also love if they somehow remade the community mechanics a little because unfortunately the game's main gimmick was also its weakest part.

They already stated that co-op doesn't fit the model of the game. It will never happen.

No randomly generated maps, no build-anywhere you want functionality, no sale.

Fresh replayability is all this game needs to really keep it going. 1 map ain't gonna do that.

This game needs a randomly generated map function in the worst possible way, and it needs to let us build however and wherever we want to, not pre-determined locations that we can pick from.

If they don't add Randomly generated maps and the ability to actually build your base wherever you want, then no sale here. Sorry.

<< LINK REMOVED >> seems like you wnat a lot from a simple indie game. the whole idea was great and somthing never done before, just like gta 3 it will change the game and create a new genre. no matter what tpe of game you build people will find a way to say something is wrong with it.

@Shelledfade1 Wow broseph. For people like you who clearly don't respect gameplay with an established goal, there are more than enough open-world voxel games or games like DayZ mod. Rust, 7 Days to Die, Terraria, Minecraft, Starbound - go play those.

State of Decay doesn't need a map generator.

<< LINK REMOVED >> No beef, but I think its a LOT harder than you make it sound with that "do this now or no buy" thing. Hard enough to where I doubt the sequel will feature that at least not fully functional let alone an expansion. What do you mean one map? As in the entire game we have now? Of course another map in an EXPANSION would be absolutely perfect and more than we could ask for. I would be shocked if we actually got an ENTIRE new map because considering what the game is..that would essentially be the sequel. Ppl gotta remember this was a $20 game that has value more than a lot of full priced games. As for building anywhere...I wouldnt be surprised if that function originally existed and they just got rid of it or something...why would anyone want to live in a regular house or shed when you can have a base?...I like how the things you build actually show up and can be seen. Its pretty obvious why you can't set up shop inside a shed or something...your not going to be able to build anything..unless they take some unrealisitc route where you don't actually see anything....that would be terrible. The building and supplies stuff however was my favorite. I would like to see the system they have now but ramped up....it would be awesome to see outposts expanded upon more with building options there. Maybe being able to build in a "base" and connect it to close areas with fences etc.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >>You make a good point. I sometimes forget too that random map generation requires a lot more. Also, that one map is huge.

If you can play the game without having to babysit then I might be interested. Honestly it was a pretty dissapointing game when it FINALLY released. Not much to do other than babysit, and kill zombies. Never really felt like I was surviving anything. Kinda just living in a world full of zombies.

Cool, but the game felt too much like busy work to me. Lots of chores. Your hard work could be lost overnight because of an infestation on the other side of the freakin' map.

<< LINK REMOVED >> The "penalties" for ignoring stuff like that was incredibly minor. If you wanted you can ignore things like that. I found it overwhelming too at first...ALTHOUGH I did appreciate the fact the game always wanted to keep me busy. Then once I realized half the crap isn't really required for me to succeed....I appreciated it more so because at least they actually made it so you can always have something to do. I've never played a non repetitve video game before.

I think that juggling all those missions builds character, but I agree on that bit about not the game running on itself - or more precisely, make extrapolations on what could have happened in between your previous session and current one.
