Steam now has more than 65 million registered users, Valve announced today. During the trailing 12 months, the number of Steam accounts grew by 30 percent, the company said. This figure is up from 50 million announced in September 2012.

By comparison, Xbox Live has 48 million registered users. It is unclear how many have signed up for a PlayStation Network account.

2013 marked Steam's 10th anniversary. The company introduced a suite of new services during the year, including Family Sharing, Steam Trading Cards, Early Access, and Linux support.

Valve also announced Steam OS, Steam Machines, and a Steam Controller last month. These products and services will be available to the public in 2014. Also in 2014, Valve will hold its first Steam Developers Day conference in Seattle, Washington.

"The main goal of Steam has always been to increase the quality of the user's experience by reducing the distance between content creators and their audience," Valve co-founder Gabe Newell said in a statement. "As the platform grows, our job is to adapt to the changing needs of both the development and user communities. In the coming year, we plan to make perhaps our most significant collaborations with both communities through the Steam Dev Days and the Steam Machines beta."
