Steam users can play a pair of Warhammer games for free over the next couple of days.

Steam users can now play a couple of new games for free on PC. This weekend, players can try out a pair of Warhammer titles, including Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III, which is also available at a discount for the next couple of days.

Starting today, Steam users can download and play the real-time strategy game at no cost. The free trial gives you access to the full game and runs until Sunday, October 22, at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET / 9 PM BST.

The Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III free weekend coincides with the release of the game's new Endless War update, which Sega says is the "biggest post-launch content release" for the real-time strategy game yet. The update adds three new Elites and five cosmetic skins, as well as custom match options. The update also introduces a trio of new multiplayer maps to the game: Shrine of Asruyan (1v1), Serpent Chasm (2x2), and Da Extractor (3v3).

In addition to the free trial, Steam is currently offering a limited-time sale on Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III. Beginning today, users can purchase it for $20/£15, 50% off of its usual price. The sale will only be available until 10 AM PT / 1 PM PT / 6 PM BST on October 23. You can learn more about the title in GameSpot's Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III review.

Dawn of War III isn't the only Warhammer game Steam users can play for free right now. Steam is also offering a limited time free trial of Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide. Players can try the title at no cost until Thursday, October 26. It's also available for a discounted $7.50/£5.75 until that day.

@wanderz: It's funny because its not "free" for Xbox, or PSN.. You gotta pay a subscription to get them.. Its renting at best.

@pcgameboy: well, since we are talking about a "free weekend" then, it's the same on steam, except you don't need a have an annual membership... it's only free for the weekend.

also the xbox gold membership is fairly easy to get for free from microsoft... just use their search engine bing, rack up points (click 10 'current events' some days) and use them for free xbox gold membership. :)

other then that yeah, i'm not real crazy about the required membership for online, and it kept me away from the consoles for quite some time, or on the 360 i only had gold membership when they'd give me a free month or maybe $2 for 2 months, they did a few times... but you do also get a LOT of "free" games, 4+ games every month, even if it was $40 a year isn't a bad deal... at zero a year, it's definitely not bad. :)

@wanderz: Well i never said the Steam stuff was free (though Origin, and Uplay does do free stuff like XboxLive, and PSN, i fell like Steam should start doing it too, just without an subscription. Having to even go through the points thing to get XBL sounds like a pain. I just don't think any subscription is worth it.. I mean you get better deals on Steam, and other sites, without one.. But Steam isn't perfect, and does need work. I just like the idea that Steam gives the best deals, biggest library, and refunds without a sub. Free weekend is nice, but they could do better, they have the money to improve that.

Don't buy Dawn of War III, it's dead (and not a very good game)

Buy Company of Heroes 2 instead, it's very much alive, because it's an excellent game.
