Still Holding Out Hope For Days Gone 2? "Time To Move On," Sony Dev Says

Pour one out for the Freakers.

The story of Deacon St. John will not be continuing in a Days Gone sequel. The community manager for Bend Studio has taken to social media to squash the "false hope and poor information" people are getting about a new game in the open-world zombie franchise.

On X (formerly known as Twitter), Bend's Kevin McAllister confirmed the developer is "currently working on a new IP." Additionally, in a reply, the community manager said "previous developers" are the ones spreading Days Gone 2 hype, but it's "time to move on."

Eurogamer reports that McAllister could be referencing former Bend Studio director John Garvin, who has been discussing that Days Gone is supposed to be a trilogy. In 2021, Garvin previously lamented players not paying full price at launch for games.

There has been a lot of talk about what a Days Gone 2 might be like over the years, too. In 2022, Days Gone director Jeff Ross spoke about what the sequel would have added to the franchise, like Deacon being able to swim and utilize NERO technology to upgrade his motorcycle.

While there is no official name for the title, Bend announced it had a new multiplayer game in the works in 2022. Days Gone was ported to PC in 2021 after originally launching on PS4 in 2019. Otherwise, there has been no official word about more entries in the series. For more, check out GameSpot's Days Gone review.

Controversy is the best advertiser and the best way to slowly release it.

Yup it's coming out the guy has no intentions informing anyone other than hush conversations with Sony.

Days Gone was a lot like Calisto Protocol. It was alright, I didn't dislike playing it, but both games left my memory pretty much as soon as I started playing something else. At this point Days Gone seems like an IP Sony would reboot, rather than make a sequel in, if they ever decided to bring back.

@mogan: It had impressive visuals, but Callisto Protocol was so terribly linear and far less memorable for me. Gameplay wasn't as fun either.

UGH im recalling Gamestop or IGN reviewer who got triggered & complained because the Protag was 'White Male'

Sony SHoulda threw money at HideoKojima to make Socom Solid

or Perfect Dark or some new stealth game.

-Socom2 + 3 were some fun MP times for sure.

Patience because you died & you were stick spectating for 8 mins.

Apparently, Sony prefers having no lineup instead, oddly enough.

@pillarrocks: If you haven’t played it on PS5, I highly recommend it. It runs a steady 60 FPS and looks great. It might not be a “true” PS5 upgrade, but it’s still quite nice.

It was one of the most fun games of it's generation for me. It was really good for a new IP and a sequel could have fixed some of the few issues it had and made a truly great game.

Jeff Ross is such a pretentious asshole, that thinks he wrote Shakespeare or something. The game is OK. Its fun, I played it, enjoyed it. But its one and done, and no big loss at that.

Never play them before, since zombie, survival horrors not for me, never mind the faint hearts, but they seems fun, and I suck at FPS (first person shooting) games. I probadly waste more ammos on shooting trees than the intended ones, which are the enemies😂, if I play FPS games again lmao😂.

So, I'll stick to tennis games and Asphalt series, then😂. And Master Duel and Duel Links, although MD is more fun for me, since it is less relied on gacha thingy, just to get cards I need😂.

Days Gone was fun, but ultimately an 8.5/10 experience for me. I would have played a sequel, but I don't give them wrong for moving on to something else either.

@Lunatic420s: I thought that was a bit sad really, made a decent single player story game and now the fanbase gets... a multiplayer game. Shame. Despite critique of the story, I thought Days Gone ran well, looked good and was enjoyable. Why not build on that?

@afromakka: GameRant and TheGamer's game reviews needs to be approach with some grains of salt. Since you never know, if their reviews are valid or not. Maybe, it's just me or something...

@afromakka: Didn't help it was also when the whole anti white male lead shit started building up steam. One of those big named garbage reviews straight up said the game was great except for John being a white male.

@afromakka: Oh so from here? Good to know my choice to ignore gamespot reviews remains valid. I stopped caring when the original reviewer for FFXV straight up said they don't play FF games and gave it a lower score because they don't play FF games.

While I have moved on, it is a let down to let such a great ip die. It's story was compelling and it's characters memorable. There was so much story left to tell so it's sad.
