SubSpace RIP
It's confirmed. SubSpace in the US is on the way out.
Official word from Virgin UK confirms that SubSpace servers will be shutting down any moment now. "Yes, we are shutting down our server in the US," GameSpot News was told. We were also told that SubSpace operations in Europe may be picked up by Demon Internet, a large UK-based Internet Service Provider. Virgin UK and Demon have been working on creating a SubSpace game server for the ISP and Demon indicates on its site that its server should be up soon.
Although the Virgin spokesperson, who only sent a short reply to GameSpot News, didn't indicate when the last day for US SubSpace players would be, he did say that more information would be forthcoming. Talk on the Web still indicates the final day for US players will be October 31.
Considering VIE's work with Demon, there may be a glimmer of hope to sustain SubSpace servers in the US. We've sent along a volley of questions for VIE UK to answer Once those questions are answered, we'll convey those answers to you.
