Super Mario 3D All-Stars: Where To Find A Physical Copy

Super Mario 3D All-Stars releases today on Nintendo Switch, compiling Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy.

The long-rumored and highly-anticipated 3D Super Mario Bros. remasters are indeed real, and they launched today, September 18, on Nintendo Switch. Nintendo announced the compilation during a surprise Nintendo Direct celebrating the plumber's 35th anniversary. For release day, physical copies have come back into stock at Amazon, Target, GameStop, and Best Buy (for some reason, Walmart is now selling it for $80), and we expect they'll sell out again soon. Preorder bonuses are no longer available, though Target was offering a magnet set for those who purchase Super Mario 3D All-Stars in stores. Check with your local store for availability.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars will only be available to purchase until March 31, 2021, and the physical edition will likely sell out much sooner. It's the same strategy being used for Super Mario Bros. 35, a new free-to-play Mario battle royale announced during the Direct. The limited run is somewhat similar to what Nintendo did for Mario's 25th anniversary by re-releasing Super Mario All-Stars for Wii.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars bundles three iconic Mario games: Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. Each game has received performance enhancements and even some new features. Super Mario 64, for example, now supports Joy-Con rumble and has gotten a nice resolution bump. You can also turn on any of the songs from the beloved soundtrack while playing. Super Mario Sunshine has a 16:9 aspect ratio, rumble support, and soundtrack browsing, while Super Mario Galaxy is playable in a higher resolution than the original.

The remaster collection earned an 8/10 in our Super Mario 3D All-Stars review. "Taken all together, Mario 3D All-Stars is a worthwhile collection, featuring the best versions of Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy to appear on a Nintendo system," editor Kevin Knezevic wrote. "Despite their age, the games are still rife with inventive ideas and surprises, which more than makes up for the collection's presentational shortcomings."

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is just one of several new Mario games for Switch announced during the Direct. It'll be joined by Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury and a creative new Mario Kart AR game.

Walmart is doing pre-orders too. It was very smooth, and includes free shipping, with delivery on release day.

There seemed to be a lot in stock as of yesterday when I pre-ordered. And it comes with some stickers which is cool. But I would snag it while you still can before scalpers get them all.

Wish they were remaking the games for the switch instead of them just being a Port.

@kangakitkat: Everyone feels that way, but this will still be a worthwhile little collection to have. I am collecting older games like these for my son when he start playing games, and this is preferable over an emulator (which I still have and use personally) for user-friendly purposes

If this were some actual collectors piece, being limited run would be understandable. But it isn't. Its a full game. Absolutely 0 reason it should be limited run like this...

Knowing Nintendo, this will be $500. Just like them to make it limited time only and play right into scalpers' salivating hands.

I'm unsure of going with Best Buy at this point. They don't even have a product description or photo. Afraid I'll show up to pick up the physical copy and they'll give me a download code

@HAWK9600: Bestbuy is notorious for not fullfilling orders, they just allow 10s of thousands of people to preorder and pay full price up front, no cutoff then when it comes time to distribute the gamer its like a lottery system.

then because of this they send a small amount to stores, and i have known some store employees to basically keep the games from themelves(even though they arent supposed to but usually its the manager who allows it for their employeees)
this is what happend witht he SNES classic

@alastor529: Walmart has always been the most reliable game retailer I know, oddly enough.

I have never had a problem getting Nintendo products from them. Switch, BotW, SNES classic, etc... I got them all on release day. Their Switch games are usually 10 dollars cheaper than everywhere else too.
