In our Super Mario Odyssey review, Peter Brown scored the game a 10/10. He writes: "Odyssey is sustained beyond its major milestones not only through colorful worlds and hidden challenges, but through the sheer joy of controlling Mario, who's never felt more responsive or dynamic in action. Even with everything new that's been introduced, Nintendo's forward-thinking platformer retains the series' classic handcrafted appeal, which is even more impressive when you realize how densely packed each kingdom is. Mario's latest outing is big, bold, and bursting with new ideas, and like Breath of the Wild, is another instance of Nintendo going above and beyond to redefine our expectations. It's a shining example of refined creativity, and another crown jewel for Switch that is without equal." For more, check out our Super Mario Odyssey review roundup.

This game looks like it could have run smoothly on the Wii U.

@mbrogz3000: It runs at 1080p60, not even the PS4 can do that...

@Elranzer: According to Digital Foundry's analysis of the finished game, it usually runs docked at 810p with occasional climbs up to 900p and infrequent dips to 720p.

Alot of nostalgia it seems. If Mario Odyssey ran on and only on Wii u (and it had beefy hardware, while giving you the option to buy a switch not forcing you while playing a enhanced Wii u #trend.) Wii u's versions of Mario would only get a 9.

I watched someone play. No, and it seems moon melons are the games core feature(they encourage exploration so players do not overlook the hardwork Nintendo wanted to achieved.)

I still think Mario sunshines better.

This may be the first, mainstream Mario title I do not buy in 20 years as the Switch is not a worthy purchase just for two games. Anyway, I hope its great (Im a bit worried about how it seems to play similarly to Sunshine), so in a few years when the Switch is at a logical price point, I can play it.

@soul_starter: Super Mario Odyssey plays closest to Super Mario 64 than Sunshine or Galaxy ever did. The "hat" gimmick is entirely new, and plays nothing like the FLUDD gimmick of Sunshine.

As a weapon, the hat feels like a boomerang, but the main mechanic is possessing enemies for different puzzling situations.

@Elranzer: I never mentioned cappy...what concerns me is the world design and how so much of it is so wide and open, which made the controls in Sunshine really finiky and Mario felt too loose. A platformer is about precise timing and platforming stages, not a running adventure game. Again, I emphasise, I havent played it, Im just going off of all the gameplay vids I watched.

@soul_starter: well... you're indeed roght when you say the switch isn't worthy for 2 games. It's actually worthy for a gazillion of already released games and another gazillion coming next year.

@juxax: If the Switch was £200 and the battery life was truly indicative of a handheld, then I would have no problem buying it right now, even with the small number of games available and the flimsy controllers. After all, thats what a supplementary console is supposed to be.

@soul_starter: amm you have point, but I usually have two consoles( PlayStation counsel & Nintendo counsel). Nintendo games are something delightful, you need to play once in while

@super-khalid89: Yeah, I normally play across a PS console, PC and then a 3rd console, which used to be Nintendo but I never bought the WiiU (having bought SNES, N64, GC and the Wii)...and honestly, the Switch may be left out for me too.

@silv3rst0rm: I hear you! I'm the same. So many good games this year. Part of my problem is that I can actually afford to buy them all... I guess it's a good thing to not have the time to play, but, it's so hard to choose which to buy and play and at the same time encourage the dev!

@itchyflop: I hope I don't get too much hate for this, but I feel Mario is being overhyped. It's a great effort by Nintendo, and it could be the template for some essential sequels, but it's not the best Mario ever.
