Super Meat Boy Forever Isn't Just a Simple Mobile Game, Dev Says

Team Meat says that its newly announced Super Meat Boy Forever is one of its best designs to date.

Team Meat, the developer behind the hit 2D indie platformer Super Meat Boy, has announced Super Meat Boy Forever, a mobile version of the game it says isn't just "a simple endless runner."

"Our goal with Super Meat Boy: Forever is to design a new full length platformer for touch devices from the ground up to avoid tacking bad controls on an existing design," Team Meat's Edmund McMillen said in a post to the Super Meat Boy site. "We want to make something that embodies the original Super Meat Boy but is designed around a simple yet intuitive control scheme allowing for pinpoint accuracy and surprisingly deep controls without the use of multiple buttons/analog sticks."

McMillen, who said Super Meat Boy: Forever might be one of his best designs to date, added that the game isn't just a one button, endless runner like Temple Run, Canabalt, or many other similar games on the iTunes App Store, though it will have an endless mode with online high scores and daily runs. McMillen also promised that it will not use abusive monetization tactics to cheapen the experience.

The game will feature a full story, six chapters, and double the bosses featured in the original Super Meat Boy. It will also feature a full fledged dark world with dark warp zones and more playable characters from other indie games. Unlike the original Super Meat Boy, it will feature a randomly generated level structure.

Super Meat Boy: Forever will release "sometime next year" for phones, tablets, and PC via Steam. McMillan said it might come to other platforms as well later.

If you're at PAX 2014, you can check out Super Meat Boy: Forever for yourself at the Indie Megabooth.

I dont see mobile ever being good for games until it has physical controls and more standard hardware. Also the whole F2P mindset makes it a big wasteland of garbage.

Maybe someday but its not anytime soon. Could get worse as F2P keeps going

Looks interesting, I've always maintained that mobile is a good platform that just hasn't hit its stride. Most of the good developers don't want to take risks with the platform so they keep playing it safe with mobile and most of the indies would rather develop on PC. I feel the same with the Wii, most Nintendo games controlled perfectly on the Wii but devs used it as a dancing game dump. Here's to good touch screen games.

Why do they need to let us know about awesome games over four months away from release. If it's not coming out in a week they should just keep their mouths shut. :(

it may be a great mobile game but it's still a mobile game, I wouldn't play it on PC

Well if I trust anyone to make good controls it's these guys, I'll probably get this actually because I would like to have ONE enjoyable gaming experience on my phone.

Me too. I'm also looking forward to Hearthstone for mobile iOS. I haven't really cared about any mobile games until these two games.

What happened to that Peeping Tom "Voyeur" game they announced a few weeks ago? Or did they realize it was just creepy, and that the Peeping Tom market is probably a small one?

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> ive never seen or used touch screen controls that are equal to real physical hardware. So nothing is enough to convince me I guess until I use it.

Props to that guy in the comment section of Team Meat's other announcement, who figured out that the name was an anagram of "Super Meat Boy Forever".

<< LINK REMOVED >> Thanks, I think you're talking about me. To be fair, I probably wasn't the first guy to discover it. But hey... I felt pretty damn smart for a minute, that's something. :P

No, it's probably a F2P game also.
