Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games from Activision on the way

Call of Duty publisher signs worldwide, multiyear deal with Nickelodeon to develop and publish games inspired by new CG-animated series.

Nickelodeon and Activision today announced a new worldwide, multiyear deal that will see the Call of Duty company develop and publish at least three Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games inspired by the animated series.

No Caption Provided

As part of the agreement, Activision has secured the global game rights to TMNT. The first game is due out this summer for unspecified platforms.

That Activision is picking up the TMNT franchise is not a total surprise, as the company was last year rumored to be a licensing partner for the franchise.

Activision is the third gaming publisher to try its hand at a Ninja Turtles game. Konami was the brand's first and longest-running publishing partner, with a string of games lasting from the Turtles' NES and arcade games of 1989 to 2005's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Mutant Nightmare. Ubisoft took over the franchise in 2007, starting with tie-ins for the computer-animated feature film TMNT, and it produced a handful of titles during the following two years.

Nickelodeon's new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series debuted in September, drawing nearly 12 million viewers during its first weekend. The show explores the brotherhood of four teenage turtles (Donatello, Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael) and their quest to understand the mystery of their existence.

The show airs Saturday mornings on Nickelodeon.

This is going to be great, I loved all of the turtle games until they did the fighting ones, but the SNES and the arcade ones were fantastic

Do you know how awesome a 4 player co-op TMNT game would be? Let's hope they don't dumb it down for the kids.

Does this mean we can put TMNT action figures on our USB portal and swap torsos for a unique game play experience? Imagine Donetello's legs on Raphael's body!

Well, Activision, does this also mean you are going to grow out of diapers and start incorporating RPG elements and replay value?

Ehh.... I'm still on the fence about even liking the new cartoon. On the one hand, it has some decent writing when it's not trying to be an anime. On the other, it tries too hard to be an anime. Plus, I have no idea why every incarnation since the 90's feels the need to replace Bebop and Rocksteady with two different characters.

@spoonybard-hahs I have to totally agree with you. I like the new show, but I would like something different and edgy, but that goes back to the origin for the ol' skool fans. But of course they are going to make money off it being based on the recent show.

I wish they could get the rights to make it based on the comics. That game would be EPIC! Think Arkham City but with the turtles.

I hate the new series. The 2003 animated series was 1000x better in every way.

However I love the turtles and would like to see new TMNT games.

My kids love the new TMNT, it's actually a great cartoon. Too bad Activision got the license... even on the off chance the developer manages to make a decent game (Spiderman Shattered Dimensions/ Fall of Cybertron) Activision will milk and grind them into dust with the sequels.

@beuneus12 @baxwam Fall of Cybertron was decent. Nothing special but probably one of the better licensed games I've played besides Arkham of course. Chances are this will be sh1t though. Activision makes mostly poop.

Based on the screen shoot this already looks like it is going to suck. Just bring back the original SNES or Arcade version of TMNT: Turtles in Time and I will be happy.

Just let the Turtles die already. They have been through enough, with reboots and redesigns.

Wait, so they just picked up the rights to make the game and it'll be released this summer, something tells me the game won't be very good. Isn't that a really small amount of time to develop a game or am I missing something?

Sweet. Now Activision needs to make a time machine to go back to 1988 when TMNT was actually still RELEVANT. Good luck!

I still play the Manhattan Project from time to time , even the the mid 2000 games from Konami are way much better than the new ones (2007-present) .

I miss the "real" TMNT games and ... SHREDDER .
