Namco USA made it official Thursday with its announcement of Tekken 3 for the Sony PlayStation.

Accompanying the release were nine screenshots that show the home version said to be released sometime in '98. From the looks of these screenshots, Tekken 3 appears to be nearly identical to its arcade counterpart.

Jesse Taylor, director of research and development at Namco Hometek, said, "I've seen the game and it looks phenomenal. The consumers want an awesome translation of the arcade version and we plan on giving it to them. They won't be disappointed."

Questions and rumors had been flying for months about a possible add-on device being developed to help the PlayStation handle the incredibly fast 3D fighter. Namco today announced that Tekken 3 would not need any add-on device and that the development team in Japan is aiming for a complete conversion of the arcade title, with all the characters.

"The PlayStation version of Tekken 3 will not be released with any type of add-on. The development team is really pushing the limits of the PlayStation. Tekken 3 will showcase what the system is really capable of doing," Taylor said.
